Things are more fun when they're prohibited. The state is just trying to help you enjoy yourself.

Open container laws are another BS law that does nothing but squelch freedom. There is no victim from an open container... it's just something else to tack on when one runs foul of the police, or it is used to harass the citizenry

I don't care what you do, but if you show up to pick up your kid, some people might look askance at you if you've got a beer in your hand. It's a matter of class, maybe, and in some parts of the country, still, people will talk about you.

I mean it's what, 8 minutes max, to walk 6 houses, knock on door, get your kid packed up and moving, and return home. You SHOULD be able to put a beer down that long, right?

Open container laws generally pertain to passengers, not drivers.

When I first got to Texas in 1998, everyone in the vehicle could drink except the driver. I drove my SGT's and some buddies from Ft Hood up to the Rangers Stadium while everyone got shitfaced on the way up there.

No, I don't support laws like that. The city I live in even has a prohibition on brown bagging alcohol (if I understand things correctly)...

What's the use of having sons, if not to legally drink on the way to the lake (by making one of them drive).

Sober, not being a douche, and not driving don't really care.

It is only a summons in va if you screw up enough to earn it.

It usually only goes with a dui or public intox arrest. Not particularly worth it otherwise.

As a reason for any sort of citation? no.
As a reason to investigate further on whether the person is a hazard to others by being publicly intoxicated or as well as being that... about to drive? Yes.

In other words it's completely reasonable to use it as evidence to justify probably cause.  It should not be in and of itself a crime.

Passengers can drink here in Tennessee.
Beer sales from 6 am till 3 am except Sundays.
Sundays Noon until 3am. No liquor stores open on Sundays.

This is in my area.

No.

Funny this thread came up, I was just thinking the other day that I never see people drinking beer out in public anymore.
Used to always see groups of guys posted up in parking lots or wherever having a few cold ones. Hell, I used to have a couple with people I worked with after closing time pretty regularly.

I also do not support open container laws. Want to have a road soda? Fine, as long as you aren't drunk.

That said, it isn't hard to get around in TX.

1. put beer in stealth coozie

2. have locking console or some other locking box nearby to put it in.

There. Problem solved.

Always enjoy freedom responsibly.

No I do not.

If the driver blows a 00.00 BAL  I believe transporting an open liter of rum in my back seat should be legal.  I also believe a driver with a 0.00 BAL should be allowed a passenger as shit faced as they desire to be.

It is no surprise I am against alot of the DUI laws as they have become far too harsh to be useful.

Oh yes, I have lost a sister in law to a drunk driver so shut up with that "if it happened to your family " BS

None. Open container laws are stupid. A guy minding his own business walking down the street and not bothering anyone with a beer in his hand is exactly the same as a guy minding his own business walking down the street and not bothering anyone with a Pepsi in his hand.

There are laws against drunk and disorderly. We dint need more laws.

I support them in the inner cities where the thugs are shooting each other every day. This way the cops can lawfully stop them, and based on their observations search them and lock them up. For guns, drugs whatever.

I do not support them in surburban or rural areas where normal people live and don't shoot each other.

And Californian gun laws started because some black panthers were scaring people.  Surely in either case, there were other laws that could've addressed the issue, but the state has to state.
