Have it it from an active duty DPD officer; Friday an email went out, no Dallas PD officers are to carry the Sig 320 effective immediately. Officers were carrying these as authorized private purchase. RUMOR is they can discharge when dropped.

I'm not a Sig guy, but I'll go ahead and assume that IF a gun discharged when it dropped, it was modified from factory form.  Because safety plungers and firing pin blocks are for suckers.

ETA - Looks like I was very wrong.  Shitty design.  Yuck.

Remember when those of us who panned the choice of the P320 by the Army without any proper tests were considered Glock koolaide drinkers?

Lol, this is why the proper testing needed to happen, not just "Fire x rounds from a rest and call it good if it makes it.".

I might get on the 320 bandwagon after the first revision or two once the military figured out the warts.

This, wait for the ones with an external safety. Apparently the Dallas police has small hands.

yup, FBI rejected it after creating a ROP that was pretty much made for sig.

Yup I googled it after I asked the question. I just wonder if it's something inherently flawed with the 320, or another glaring example of Sig's quality control.

Isn't that weird trigger safety thingy found on just about every striker fired trigger other than the P320 part of the drop safety?

Does the P320 actually have a mechanism built into the trigger system to prevent the rearward movement of the trigger unless its pressed by a finger, like all of the others pictured?

This is a good point. One reason high speed guys aren't touching the 320 with a 10ft pole.

I'm not gonna put a lot of info here, but the officer who told me was in a major police supply store, buying a duty holster for his Sig P226 since he could no longer carry his 320. The staff at the major police store is aware of the issue.

The melting issue?

You mean when MAC fired 1,000 rounds through it in like 8 minutes and the frame slightly warped? That is so far outside of what any of these guns would be used for in the military, and even if it did happen its a simple fix of throwing away the frame and buying a new one for $30.

Whereas an even bigger PD (Houston) has made it mandatory for all officers going through academy from current class (232) going forward.

So who's right?

I can tell you the drop thing is bullshit as I know an independent, respected tester just did the drop test with the 320 (civilian, not MHS model) and no issues were found. He had the proper SAAMI drop mats, 5K rounds of 124Gr NATO 9mm through it etc etc.

If it's from AD due to dropping?  Probably.

I've had no issues with mine, then again, i'm not nearly "high speed" enough for GD, and am unworthy of the Glock i also own.

My bet is it probably has more to do with the fact that it has no trigger safety at all.  Depending on the type of holster you use, that could present a problem, especially if you start modifying the trigger.

It has a firing pin safety, like just about everything else on the market.  Drop tests are pretty basic.  Color me skeptical for now.

Odd...You'd think a police dept would want guns that could fire unexpectedly.  At least they could use that as plausible deniability defense next time they open fire on a random citizen.

I'm skeptical of the discharge when dropped "rumor." These guns have been in production for a few years now, they've been adopted by several agencies, and a lot of them are in circulation.

Surely, this has been tested for, and I've never heard of it happening elsewhere.

Look, I'm just passing it on. This is a gun board, this is an issue of interest to gun owners. I have no stock in Sig, do not own a Sig 320, and I do not give one infinitesimal fuck if you believe it or not. (Drops the Mike).
