What am I missing on this? Everyone is saying fuck Paul Ryan, but if anything he just saved the SHARE and HPA in my opinion. I am very confident that if it went to vote right now, it would not pass, because every single rep that voted to pass it, would be blasted after the fact. I can see the media now headlines: "days after biggest massacre in america, republicans vote to loosen gun restrictions". After all that, it would get to the senate and they would be like "lol, no thanks, those dudes that voted yes to it in the house are being crucified right now"
Table this shit for 2-3 months, let the media move onto the next big event, and then vote. 2-3 months is a better wait then rushing it into failure and another 2-3 years for it to make it back up to congress. Also in my personal opinion, which wont be commonly shared on here, add to the SHARE act a provision which does require background checks at gun shows, and makes it harder for mentally Ill people to get guns. Obama is gone, the 'BAN ALL GUNS, WE WILL TAKE THEM,' craze is gone. Now lets be logical. We would get many more dems on board if we you know... worked together. |

I think that the underlying issue is the definition of "mentally ill" which is the metaphorical equivalent of saying "physically sick" as it is a broad brush term that anyone could be painted with. What should be done is that anyone with a diagnosis of bi-polar, manic-depressive, schizo affect should be placed as a prohibited person in the NCIS database. That eliminates the possibility of preventing gun ownership by throwing DSM diags at anyone who goes to the hospital while still keeping the true crazies from passing a background check Edited for clarification and grammar. Everything to do with healthcare needs to be reformed, if not entirely gutted and rebuilt from the ground up. Asylums aren't one of the first things that come to mind as a solution to the unstable, particularly due to the history of asylums in our country, but they most definitely have their uses. The trouble is ensuring proper oversight, so that those incarcerated within are not abused, experimented on, or unjustly imprisoned. And I do NOT trust any government, nor any private corporation, to do so with acceptable costs. |

Someone had the idea of adding a bumpstock ban to the SHARE Act.
I see the ban going through regardless, I'm wondering if we can at least get a reach around out of getting fucked. Thoughts? And yeah, normally I believe in no compromises when it comes to the 2A. However, this would not be the liberals' definition of "compromise," where they get something they want and we get fucked over. Alternatively, if it fails, then the status quo remains. |

ASA Statement on Las Vegas
Before releasing a statement, we felt it was critically important to wait for law enforcement investigators to determine the facts surrounding what exactly transpired last week in Las Vegas. First and foremost, we extend our thoughts and prayers to the victims of this horrific event. We would also like to extend our sincerest appreciation to all of the first responders, both professional and volunteer, that worked so diligently to save lives that fateful night. Our world is a better place because of men and women like you. As we struggle to make sense of the senseless, it is abundantly clear that a simple solution to protect our society from irrational acts of evil does not exist. Whatever your political affiliation may be, we all want to find the right solution to prevent future attacks. However, as we debate the proper solutions, one thing is certain: exploiting a tragedy to promote blatant falsehoods and lies about an irrelevant topic is not only unbecoming, it is repulsive. Within hours of the shooting, numerous high profile politicians and pundits began making unsubstantiated claims that the events would have been worse had a suppressor been used. Shame on them! They politicized an act of pure evil because they believed that their dishonesty would go unchecked, and that they could shape future discussions on the Hearing Protection Act with disparaging conjecture rather than fact. As a nation, while we search for answers to such an appalling event, we must not cloud the issue further with wild and erroneous speculation. Thankfully, this time, their deceit based on willful ignorance did not stand. We would like to offer our sincerest thank you to the journalists who did their job and reported the facts about suppressors. Here are some examples: Washington Post: Why the debate over gun suppressors isn’t really relevant to what happened in Las Vegas Fox News Insider: ‘Maybe She Should Know What She’s Talking About’: Tucker Battles Dem Over Clinton’s Las Vegas Reaction Politifact: No, gun silencers wouldn’t have worsened the Las Vegas shooting Washington Post Fact Checker: Two Pinocchio’s to Senator Tim Kaine The Daily Signal: Here’s What a Gun Fired With a ‘Silencer’ Really Sounds Like Time: Gun Control Advocates Are Speaking Up About a Bill Making it Easier to Buy a Silencer To those who continue to report fraudulent misrepresentations about suppressors, we ask simply that you do your job and report the facts. If you need assistance finding those facts, feel free to contact us at any time. We would be more than happy to show you what suppressors are and are not capable of in reality. |
