I recently picked up a laptop. the plan is to take the laptop in the car in trips. I ususually take a friend with me. I'm looking for a way to backup my DVD's to some other format, so i can watch them on my laptop. the laptop doesn't have a DVD drive, but my home DVD does. I've downloaded divx files off the internet, and they work great. problem is, i can't figure out how to create a divx file from a dvd. Any thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Before anyone asks, i am only trying to back up my stuff, and be able to use it on my lappy. these WILL NOT be goign on the internet.

DVD is only 9 or 4.7 gig depending on if it's dual layer or single layer. The burnable ones are all 4.7 gig. Check out http://www.vcdhelp.com Just make sure you're only backing up DVDs you own :)

Well... i found a program. No work needed... jsut pop the dvd in and it converts it to a divx format. then you can go and burn it to dixv if you want (one disc, 635 mb) or split it up and burn it to VCD for use in a dvd player. Thanks for the help!
