Make sure this sporterized bolt action gun is safe to buy in your area because before I had the stock cut down it used to be an assault weapon.

What about the Springfield M6 Scout single shot .22/.410?

I don't know for sure, but it sounds like the guy was being sarcastic.  I mean, muzzle-loaders where "assault" weapons back in the day.  And as far as function goes, a Marlin 336 lever action makes a decent "assault" weapon.
I think the dude was just funnin'/making a statement about the stupidity of labeling tools of the trade.

Crap. He ruined good rifle. I would have bought it if it wasnt "sporterized".
That would be a good price too. I paid more than that for one for my Dad.
Might have seen some ROK service with the Canadians.
