BERLIN (Reuters) - A German gardener has been fined and stripped of his license for driving his lawnmower while drunk, a court said Tuesday. The court fined the 45-year-old man 400 euros ($460) and banned him from driving all vehicles, including his mower, for three months after police did a check on him as he was parking the vehicle, which has a maximum speed of four miles per hour. Defense lawyer Stefan Deppe told Reuters his client would appeal. "The mower does not pose the remotest danger to the public and common sense should have been applied," he said. Police breath-tested the gardener after detecting the smell of alcohol as he finished mowing a lawn for a client. "He said he'd had a bottle of wine," Deppe said.

That's fucked up. Does one need a licence to operate a mower in Germany? If you don't need a licence, to operate it, you can't be prohibited from operating it, any more than someone could forbid you to operate a computer.

The same thing happened out front of my house a few years back. Seems a guy had a little problem of drinking and driving so they striped him of his drivers liscence so he decided to take his mower to town to visit the local bar. Well, on the way back, he was driving down the lane and got hit by a car because he had no blinkers or slow moving sign but he was smart enough to tape a small hand held flashlight to the hood. Luckily he jumped off right before his mower got destroyed but when the cops came, he was arrested for public intoxication, operating a MOTOR vehicle without a license, DUI, public endangerment, No helmet, and no slow moving vehicle markers. I guess a motor vehicle is a motor vehicle Keving67

I wish you'd tell that to the local judges. We've got two employees that aren't allowed to use a computer, and when they're not supposed to be in a room with a computer without having an escort. Judges do it all of the time.z

I California you cannot ride a bicycle on a public street while drunk, you cannot ride a horse while drunk, you cannot ride an ATV while drunk, you cannot ride a golf cart while drunk...
