This is good for CYA so I don't get caught buying something that's hot.  Who do I call, the local police? A gunstore?  How do I ask the seller without being sounding like an a*shole?

I called the local LEO's and they asked for a badge number. I called back and talked to the Dept manager/cheif(???) and she ran the number in a few minutes over the phone... Mine turned up clean BTW.
