I figured there are a bunch of people here who are rather pissed off in general judging by some of the posts. I'm wondering if any of you have considered anger management. I am actually looking into it myself. Whenever I have to deal with stupid people or certain family members, I am filled with seething hatred and anger for these people. I do suppress it quite well. On my exterior I am calm, composed and fully in control of my actions. I am able to be the adult and remain diplomatic. But inside I am boiling mad. So mad that sometimes I feel like I'm going to explode like...like.... SEWER_URCHIN MAD!!!!MUST BREAK ENTIRE TOWN!!!!RAAAHHHHHH!!!!! (incredible hulk impression). Seriously though, whenever I have to deal with idiots, it can consume me. If any of you have tried it, has it been effective? I like being a happy, accepting person and I don't want to hate anyone. That isn't any way to live and I was wondering if I should do anger managment of go hire a hooker or two hundred.

Koreans are naturally aggressive (and angry).

Re-reading your post I noticed that I too am like that sometimes. Anger Management is good for those that feel that they are about to break someones jaw. If you feel like you have that urge then, Yes go for it, but if it is like me that you have to just vent a little (or a lot) find something that will help. If you like baseball... batting cages are a great source of venting frustration. Range time doesnt do it for me though because if I have a lousy day at the range (it happens to all of you.... ADMIT IT!!!) then it just adds to the frustration.

dr.fridge "kiss off bastard"[rofl2] clean_cut, WTF? [heavy sarcasm] It's natural so accept it. It is all about making people feeeeeel good. Nothing is unnatural as long as nobody is offended (unless you are black or gay then it is okay to be offended). I should just stay pissed off at people who iritate me. By the way, you got beef w/ koreans or something? [heavy sarcasm off]

This is a problem that is related to porn. I have met guys in church who admit to looking at porn and they are always angry, or get easily angered over nothing.

Came very near to my "Falling Down" a couple weeks ago. In marriage therapy right now. I don't have anger issues myself but it is helping the wife with hers. I got a boatload of other issues though that exacerbate her anger issues though. [;)] Our therapist is actually very cool and straightforward and helpful. One trick I've been teaching the wife is just to STOP. When she starts getting angry just STOP. It's been a chore but it is starting to work. She mostly gets angry over things that are out of her control anyhow, so once she stops she can start thinking about if it is something she can control or something she can't. If she can't control it she has to let go of it. If she can control it, she needs to think about what actions are going to get her what she wants, so I have her think about what it is she really wants and think about what the consequences of various actions will probably be. It has been working pretty well, though still a challenge.

Well, not to doubt YOU, but this statement was based on my personal observations.

I don't even know what anger management entails. I've started considering it at the beckoning of my girlfriend. We have been together on and off for quite some time but have always remained close. Recently, she has gone through changes that have caused the rage to rise. But I won't go into that. This anger is a relatively new issue in my life that I didn't have before. It isn't a natural part of me (clean_cut are you listening? or anyone else with a smart ass comment on Koreans [;)]). I am mainly wondering what the head shrinker does in sessions. One thing is that if I told the girlfriend/ex-girlfriend to take a hike, I think it would be helpful for me. Going without sex for a period of more than 2 months could be a contributing factor for a 26 year old guy. What I want to know is anger management effective as getting sex on a regular basis. I don't look at porn. I stopped looking at porn years ago. Not because it makes me angry, but because it distorts my perception on reality, women and social situations.

An example would be like if a girl were to ask me what time it was, I would start to think of things other than giving her the time. I would think certain things and be more critical of her if her body wasn't perfect. Personally, viewing women as simply pussy, hurts my ability to form casual relationships. If it doesn't effect you, by all means look to your hearts content. I find that I am more motivated to meet women when I'm not constantly holding my manhood in my hand. Wasn't there a comment about rage here?.....

When I get really angry, I stop, take a deep breath, drink a tall glass of water, and then sneak down to the laundrymat and steal a pair of women's panties out of one of the dryers. I don't know whether to blame threads like this for my behavior, or the ARFCOM Management for banning BOTD pics. cynic

I am glad you started this thread! There are a lot of people who are defensive about their beliefs and ideas, some overly so. The latter have to resort to name-calling, because they can't think of anything rational or socially acceptable to counter with. I have to laugh at the name-calling, though. It seems that the computer guarentees a certain amount of anonymity and safety: I've been called names that would NEVER have been uttered in a face-to-face discussion!

After many years observing angry people, I always found anger to be counter productive and usually exposes the angry individual as silly and immature. I don't get mad, but I do get even sometimes! I've see a lot of leaders whose face gets red and the veins in their neck stand out when they get mad. It can be fun to fire these guys up and stand back to watch the results.

Asking that question here on this forum is ludicrous. Most of us have lethal arsenals that small armies world-wide would, errr...kill for. But last time I looked, none of us has used them to wipe out schoolbuildings full of chidren, nor gone up a bell tower and started picking off civilians below. Indeed, looking at us as a group vs. the public at large, I'd say we are more peaceful and non-violent than the average person. Otherwise we'd have been disarmed, and put in jail already. So, I'd say we are managing our anger-whatever that might be made up of, or from- quite well. "Know Guns, Know Peace."

Maybe we should work towards making the maddening conditions of our lives and of our society go away -peacefully- rather than turn ourselves into passive dolts who blindly accept, internalize, and rationalise every insult and injury that comes our way? Maybe anger is a positive force, if put to good use. Use that energy to change and improve things, not to "go with the flow". Going with the flow will lead one down the sewer, if one does not struggle to stay afloat and push on ahead in life. Can you imagine George Washington in an anger management course? "Now Mr Washington, I know you have issues with the British, but you must learn to accept that you are not going to change them. Release that anger- let it go- you'll only hurt yourself and others if you act on those feelings of rage and indignation welling up inside you..."[rolleyes] Anger management courses are put together by the same people who would disarm us- remember that.

Thank God! Somebody gets it! Urchin, put your anger to good use. If the bitch is giving you heartburn, get rid of her. If you're 26 and can't find pussy somewhere else then you've got bigger issues than anger. I did notice that you said you don't want to think of women as just pussy, yet you are only staying with this anger causing bitch because she's willing to fuck you? Were you serious about your whole "why I don't like porn" thing? See a shrink, but not because you're angry. See a shrink because you're fucked up.

Whoa, hold on. I think that some of you are getting the wrong impression. I'm considering anger management at the request of my girlfriend. She thinks I have issues. I am very good at suppressing feelings in that have never, NEVER, EVER flown off the handle and acted on my feelings in a violent way. Once in a while I would talk about how I felt, but I never hit anyone because I was mad. norman, I'm staying with her because I love her. Not only for the sex. Reread my posts. We HAVEN'T been having sex lately but I still care deeply for her despite changes we have been through over the years. I think that we have a lot more to offer eachother than just sex.

Maybe I'm jaded, but I wouldn't go see a shrink based on the opinion of a woman. Bottling up anger is what causes people problems. Let that shit out. You'll feel better afterwards.
Link Posted: 6/24/2003 11:23:48 AM EDT
Just find a good place to vent. I took up the martial arts and play paintball a lot. Plus taking a break during the day and just walking around helps out a lot. I did have to see a shrink because I was sick a lot growing up. They thought I might be mental I guess, I had that guy going in circles the whole time. It's pretty bad when a 9 year old can outthink the doc. Oh, they found the problem eventually, I was growing too fast and my body was having a hard time keeping up. So I am perfectly sane, no really.

Just what I was thinking. And she's too damned weedy to dump him herself, so she's trying to get him to leave somehow, without her having to get her fingers dirty (so to speak). Never mind the conflicted guilt feelings she likely has. Sewer_Urchin, you're only, what, 26? You have a loooong life ahead of you. If you two have these sorts of problems already, [b]just wait until you are married, with kids, careers and a HUGEASS mortgage hanging over your head.[/b] you are too good to have to put up with this stuff at such a young age. What is the fascination that some churches have with porn? It's just a fucking naked woman! They're pretty to look at, STUPID! It doesn't cause rape, broken homes, or bankruptcy! Saying porn is responsible for someone’s negative behavior is like a kid saying “he made me do it”. I am constantly amazed by the lengths people will go to absolve themselves of personal responsibility. Anger management: Is your life or the life of a loved one in danger? If not there is no reason to lose your cool. Face death a couple times and the little things roll right off.

To me one thing leads to another, and little snowflakes, while harmless in themselves, cause great destruction when it is repeated many times over. Looking a porn pic may not kill you right then, or even hurt anyone, but the consequences are unseen and far-reaching.

In interviews with Ted Bundy he said pornography played a key part in his sexual deviancy. He began to view women as less than human beings and so it was okay to kill them. It started as harmless Playboy peeking when he was a kid. He grew up in a happy home with mother and father. All those in prison now for sex crimes have admitted porn has a played a key part in their behavior.

I'd bet almost all those in prison for armed robbery admit that guns were a key factor in their behavior too. Charles Whitman probably liked guns too...but the guns didn't make him a psycho.

Quietshootr, are you an anti? Your argument sounds like what they would say. So, you're spewing anti-gun rhetoric to defend porn. A gun is not the same as porn. A gun is just an object - it can't make anyone do anything. It doesn't change your perception of people. Pornography, however, is all mental, and it does affect the mind/perception, and how you look at women. No low-rent crook who robbed a 7-11 with a gun would say their love for guns lead them to do it. "I love my Sig P220 so much, I just HAD to use it in a commission of a crime!" [:D] In fact, they probably used Brycos or Lorcins. And those are anti-gunlover guns.
