Miss Emma Arfkom from Tuscaloosa Alabama had a suprise today... Her brand new kitten, given to her by her loving father, Mr. George Arfkom, for her 13th birthday had somehow found it's way into the gun cabinet...

I've enjoyed his broadcast for many, many years. He seems to have a rather sensible view on most topics and seems to avoid expressing his view on the real controversial issues. But if you listen closely and often enough he tends to support firearms ownership (though he may or may not be misguided about Sport Utility Rifles.) All in all, a great broadcaster. I've noticed he's been gone most of last week and hadn't heard a reason. Is he well? One of my co-workers doesn't like him, "hate" is the word I think he used. How can you "hate" Paul Harvey? But this guy listens to NPR and I think is will turn out to be quite a liberal

And NOW, the REST of the story. Dashing furiously here and there to find the key, young Emma had no luck. She wasn't able to pry open her fathers gun cabinet either, hard as she tried. The cat meowed and hissed, and, in general, shrieked as it's terrified young owner tried to free it from the small wooden box with the glass facade. Much to her chagrin, Emma noticed through the glass that her beloved little kitten was pawing at the trigger of the pistol her father always kept loaded. She screamed at the feline to stop. The pounded the glass, not caring if it should break. She did everything she could, but the outcome had been set in stone. The sharp crack of the Glock pierced the room, and the cabinet was violently sprayed with a red mist. Folks, there is no happy ending to this story, but what I didn't tell you was that a week earlier, Mr. George Arfkom had just fixed those cabinet hinges with JB Weld... Yes, JB Weld. This is Paul Harvey... GOOD DAY?

Yep, The Rest of the Story. Other than that, he is bought and paid for - I hate the way he weaves ads into his folksy little speils. Strip the Paul Harvey Charm away from a flipping plastic vacuum cleaner, and you have a flipping plastic vacuum cleaner. I hate those Bose ads, since I learned Bose sued Consumer Reports for giving their speakers a poor rating. They settled out of court and CR since gives Bose very high ratings so the story goes.... But he has been around since, what, the late 1940's? A cultural icon.

Man when I worked construction and on a Christmas tree farm, the oldtimers(and all of us) just had to get to lunch and listen to Paul Harvey every day. Never missed,no talking.......[:)] I enjoy his little truisms and ironies, but I don't go out of my way to listen to him. Infact I havn't listened to public radio for quite a while. Does seem like he's been around longer than time itself. On Larry King, Harvey said he just signed a 10 year contract.......He's 84......

I used to like him untill I realized he is nothing more than a shill. Which means his voice is up to the higest bidder. Which means he can't be trusted to tell the truth. Oh, and he's a big spokesman for WalMart, telling us all about the wonderfull things Wally World does for the community...without explaining how it puts local people out of business and syphons tremendous amounts of money out of town. A pox on him.

I worked at a stereo store back in college. We called them "BLOW'S" speakers instead of Bose, cause they BLOWED, poodles that is... I like his commentary, but he's sold out like a cheap whore. (edited fir spellin)

I don't believe him.

As an Okie, I'm ashamed of the little bastard (he's from Tulsa). He's so damned vain, he uses a stage name. It was funny a few years back when the president of the Oklahoma Press Association publicly referred to him as a "worm." He'd sell Cotex and Viagra on his show if the price was right (I don't want to hear the rest of those stories). He preaches morals, yet he sells his soul to the highest bidder. Sta-Bil, Bose Wave Radios, Wal-Fart, etc. When will it all end?

Most of the best commercially paid broadcasters are the same way, of course - what's new? Even that icon of conservative values, Rush Limbaugh, says he broadcasts what advertisers will pay for, so he "can charge confiscatory rates for advertising" as he puts it. And should the taste of his listeners change then he will change with it so as to maintain commercial viability. Don't expect to get absolutes like the truth from anything commercial - not consistently and not purely anyway.

I miss the Roach Proof commercials.

I heard he got chaptered out of the Army on a Section 8 (crazy) during WWII... Anybody else heard this? For the most part I like him but every now and then I get annoyed by that 1950s whimsy he has.

I dig Paul Harvey -- especially his throwback style of commercial endorsements for the dumbest, old fogey shit that he makes sound like the wonderful, end-all-say-all product on the planet. He's like a carney barker with a real vocabulary. Bose Wave Radio Blue Star Ointment Citrusel I think it's funny how he reads everything including the page number, "Page three".
