Gentlemen -
I know the time is coming. I think it will be soon. Let us keep a few things in mind...
1) The First American Revolution was faought by farmers and hunters, against the most advanced fighting force of the time. Even tho it was in the main disorganised, we enjoyed the advantage of distance from the lair of the enemy, slow communications, and relatively short resupply lines.
2) We began with a small group of highly motivated individuals against a larger force of lightly motivated professional soldiers. While the Britons were better equipped and better trained, we had the greater cause to fight for - FREEDOM!
3) The colonists were fed insult after insult, and finally declared enough! Of course, they were far more like-minded then than we are now, and that is an important psychological and motivational difference.
Now to-day's revolution...
1) Supply lines are equal, and logistics will be far simpler for the "Regular" force. Armed CItizens will have a mishmash of equipment and armamants, and often elements of a single unit will not be homogenous in equipment.
2) Communications are nearly instantaneous, and rapid identification of personnel is far easier than it was 225 years ago.
3) We will be fighting a government that employs "cover" agents on a regular basis and will be trying to get into every "right-wing" group from Hell to breakfast just as fast as they can.
So...
1) Organise ONLY on a face-to-face basis.
2) Make sure to find out as much as you can about an aspirant as possible before accepting him.
3) Wherever possible, travel seperatly to positions where the unit can drill and practise as a team.
4) Discipline is PARAMOUNT! Enforce a strict code of silence, and be ready to dissolve and reorganise the unit as needed.
5) KNOW your local areas. Have several rally points and meeting places. Disguise them with natural features wherever possible and keep them stocked and monitored. DO NOT have them too close to water, as that is a giveaway for locating insurgent forces - and that is EXACTLY what we will be!
6) Keep your cell small, and keep knowledge of other cells to a minimum, so that compromise of one cell will not endanger the entire force.
7) Study the lessons offered by the Viet Cong and the forces of the Chinese Revolution as lead by Chairman Mao. There is a wealth of information available to the guerilla fighter, and it should all be taken to heart!
