Dumbass that I was, I was using a .223 round to adjust my A1 rear sight.
After I finished my adjustment, I stuck it in the mag...
Only problem was, I was shooting my 7.62x39 upper at the time...
The mag already had the correct ammo in it but wasn't loaded full.
The .223 round went on top, and was first to chamber.

Squeezed the trigger and got nothing.
Noticed the bolt wasn't fully closed so I hit the FA to close it.

Squeezed the trigger agian, and got a really weak sounding "pop", and missed a notebook paper sized target at 25yds...

It didn't extract, so I used a cleaning rod to knock out the spent case...

Out of the chamber falls a nice funky new caliber...  7.62x45   [:D]

If I can figure out how to open the ar15.com photos page,(I keep getting server error messages) I'll post a picture of the retarded looking piece of brass.

*edit to add...

Just learned that the photo server is down...
(that would explain the little red X under my username)

If anyone wants, I can email a pic if they can host it...

Now that is helarious [;D] I gotta see that pic!

BTW, check your barrel. without the spin, it could well have really messed up your bore/rifling.

The bore was fine...
I ran a cleaning brush through it a few times before shooting it some more...
Accuracy isn't really important from this barrel anyway...
It's going on my M16 in a few months [:D]

What I'd REALLY like to see is the bullet...
It probably didn't go too far past the shooting bench. [:D]

Saw someone drop a 30-40 Krag into a trapdoor Springfield 45-70 and drop the hammer. Luckily, it was a blank!!!  Cool looking case though- a little flower on the mouth of the case and swollen like a snake that ate a dog!

anyone ever try a .30-06 round in a 7.62x54R barrel? it *should* fit, as the '06 has a smaller casing.

Would be nice to see a pic of THAT. (Ill do that when I want to throw away $50 on a nagant, and have my C&R so I dont have to deal with the form 1 for nothing... Or not)

The Viet Cong used to use 7.62 NATO rounds in their Nagants.  They had to carry cleaning rods around with them so they could knock the case out afterwards.

This a .223 casing fired from an SAR-1 by  someone next to me at the range...

took forever to get it out since no one had an extractor.

This reminds me of those guys that make the Tyranasaur 577, I seem to remember readin on their website that they bored out a barrel but goofed up and didnt do it right, and ended up firing rounds through it to get brass that was formed to the chamber.

I've heard about a guy shooting .308 through his 1919 with a 30-06 barrel. He said it worked fine but all the brass came out straight walled.

Is that Wolf ammo?
Never though steel would deform so unevenly compared to brass.

Wolf ammo it was.  He was shooting, everything sounding normal, and then pffffft accompanied by a large puff of smoke.  When we got it out the whole side and case end was blown out.  Evidently his buddy was helping him load mags and mixed the .223 in an AK mag somehow.  Complete lack of attention as far as I'm concerned.
