I prefer the .45 auto but, I have never owned a 9mm (fired a few of those girlie rounds), nor do I plan on owning one in the near future. I have been assembling .45 supers as of late and rather enjoying those for a change.

Sectional Density is a key player in this also. Hopefully, someone more articulate than I can explain this in detail.
