I got a cousin in CA (female) who is very PC. I've hinted at owning a handgun (singular) before, to which I got angry looks. Just imagine what she'll do if I tell her I have an AR, and a shotgun, and many many other gunz...

Don't just tell, show. [:D]

DO IT!! F her PC/Liberal sensitivities.

Dude!...Dress in camo, smear deer's blood on, and have targets with pictures of people. Carry a knife in your teeth, and Bring the most evil looking rifle you own...

DON'T HIDE. If the anti-gun liberals have shamed you into hiding who you are and what you believe, then they have already won half the battle.
Link Posted: 6/3/2003 1:45:22 PM EDT
Yea what R-32 said plus take your knife and carve the words "death before dishonor" on your chest.
Link Posted: 6/3/2003 1:46:55 PM EDT
She's as anti-gun as we are pro-gun. Gotta get me some rest, take lots of vitamins, do some push-ups... Oh, and to R-32's post I add a crazed look in the eyes like Christopher Walken...heheh

I can't believe you would admit to having a liberal relative, in Kali no less, with whom you are still on speaking terms. Are you cordial, or related to, any serial killers?

Doublefeed, with remarks like this, all you will get from non-gun people is a facial expression similar to mine should my dog start discussing the "Five Vowels" of traditional Mandarin.

We don't really get along. That's why I want to tick her off! She went to UC Berkeley, too.
Link Posted: 6/3/2003 2:02:46 PM EDT
Have you considered trying to get her to the range to 'confront evil weapons'?
Link Posted: 6/3/2003 2:04:22 PM EDT
If she's giving you angry looks she'll probably have something angry to say. In my opinion she's not gonna respect your beliefs.......so screw hers.
Link Posted: 6/3/2003 2:06:37 PM EDT
Jesus Kar, LOL...!!!
Link Posted: 6/3/2003 2:11:23 PM EDT
Best case scenario: She comes to accept firearms as a non-evil inanimate object Worst case scenario: I will be thereafter known as the potential newstory at family gatherings
Link Posted: 6/3/2003 2:17:16 PM EDT
Fuck it, tell her. They need to be aware that gun owners aren't all crazed psychos they don't know. Knowing that a relative is a gun owner is usually a nice bit of shock to those types.
Link Posted: 6/3/2003 3:57:16 PM EDT
Outing yourself? "I'm here, my sightline's clear, get used to it"? I say treat her like she's one of your shooting buddies and/or a newbie shooter. When - not if - she freaks, get an expression of mildly disappointed pity and ask, "If you can't be mature about this, I guess there's no sense trying to help you learn." Make sure it's in public, preferably with a lot of fence-straddlers, so you look like a calm, reasonable gentleman who happens to own guns and she looks like the irrational, ignorant, rights-trampling nutjob she obviously is. [:)]

I live in occupied territory, and my advice is to tell no one. No good can come of it. The chance that she will come to her senses is zero. Only my closest gun owning buddies know I have anything more than a tire iron for protection.

Depends. What does she look like? Pics?
Link Posted: 6/3/2003 4:30:22 PM EDT
She's in California and your in Texas? Is she visiting you at your home? If so just start loading up your gear to go to the range and ask her if she is intelectually honest and would she consider learning something about guns. Take her along and work your magic on her.

Why bother, yer from Texas, She's from CA. Any native Californian has known fer years that Texans can't be believed bout much of anything anyway. Berkeley? tell her aint nuthin good ever came out of Berkeley since Spengers got shut down, and not much before that.

I once heard someone describe UC-Berkley as taking a tour of a sewer in a glass-bottom boat. On the more serious side, I've had discussions at work with a young female liberal about firearms. Although she doesn't "like" guns, she's not afraid to discuss them and says she doesn't care if other people have them, but she sees no need for them. We've had several discussions about guns being inanimate, amoral objects. They are merely paperweights by themselves (but she doesn't seem to agree with that statement!?) And getting rid of them solves nothing. In Africa they slaughter enormous amounts of people with machetes. (sp?) Baseball bats and cars can be weapons as well, but no one is trying to stop me from driving to the baseball game. You can only talk if she's willing to use her brain and not her "feelings." Good luck whichever you decide!

Stand up for your rights! Engage her at every opportunity and tell her the truth! My sister in law is also from CA and she is also your typically unaware liberal who fears and hates handguns. We have a running war ongoing that usually explodes white hot when she visits us here in VA. I won't bore you with all of her silly arguments, suffice to say, she is your archtypical anti who believes that NONE of us should have any right to own any personal fireams...and that possession of said firearms should be reserved for the police forces and the military. (See what I mean?) So...in order to jack her up whenever she visits, I make a special point to do PMs on my firearms, making sure she sees them, then I make a couple of runs to the range, and take the 4 and 6 year olds when I can! Most importantly, I make sure I stroll through the house with one or more of my most evil looking black weapons, either an AR with mag inserted, or maybe the tricked out Mossberg M590 with extra ammo in the stock right where she can see it. Then just to really get in her knickers...I always make sure she sees me holster my concealed-carry pistol before going out. Drives her absolutely CRAZY but there's nothing she can do about it. This ain't Kalifornistan and that just sticks in her craw. She thinks we are a bunch of ill-educated louts for allowing private citizens to pack. The last time we got into it I nailed her hide to the wall when I pointed out that in her state, if you are rich and famous...or a politician, you can pack or have armed bodyguards...but she can't do much to protect herself. Anyway...don't give an inch.

dont tell her. have her over for dinner one night, and while the mrs. is talkin to her, say "be back in a few i have to back for tomarrows trip to the range." then bring out your toys in the background and rack the slide back a few times for effect. put it all in the cases and go back to the area where they are chatting. surely you'll get in some heated arrgument.

We have some liberal relatives. Spin 'em up sometimes. Here's what will really spin her in a circle. Next time yer out this way call her and get directions to the Nixon and Reagan Libraries. Tell her their both high on yer list of places to visit.

Glad I don't have any liberal relatives. Things could get a little messy around the house. As stated before, never give them an inch. Take them out, touch them, caress them. But Break Free in the microwave and give them a hot gun-oil massage. Pack for the range. Do everything you can to show her they are nothing more than tools if used in the proper way.

Good luck, hope she's not someone who doesn't think before she talks. Unfortunately, most liberals are.. You can't back down either way, maybe it'll sink into her head one day. My wife doesn't particularly like them, but I've had her carry my old .40 glock in her purse sometimes and she'll go and get it out of the bedroom if I don't have it on me before we go on any long trip or go somewhere for the night.

I've only rarely hidden gun ownership, and most of the time flaunt it. And that is here in California. And I work in a school. I've actually converted people from being anti-gun just cause they like me and see what a "normal" gun owner is like. That is how we are going to change attitudes. Go ahead and tell her. You might educate her.

My wife invided all her siblings & spouses over last Xmas for a party/get together. Her youngest brother is going into law enforcement, he's 22. Anyway, the rest of them are liberals, her bro-in-law is studying to be an attny and was giving me the b/s about the Living Constitution and the 2nd amendment referes to the military etc, etc. Anyway, her youngest hippie non shaving sister who has a degree in Philosophy, believes in the whole Marxist/socialist way of life, who I've helped to rescue a few times when she ran away from home considers me a nut case, the feelings mutual. Anyway I decided to have some fun, I had just finished building a 1919 semi-auto belt fed, all Parkerized, real sweet looking and I decided to show it off. I bust it out of the safe and walk into the living room with a "let me show what I just got". She ran screaming from the house. It was great! I suggest that you do the same, in fact invite some guys over for a gun cleaning party.

Thanks. I forgot a classic get-it-ON that happened about three years ago. One evening after cleaning my Colt .45LC single six, I left it on my bed, in the cowboy action holster and belt rig. I think it was loaded...as all my arms are because what good is an unarmed firearm? [;D] The hammer strap was over the hammer...tightly and as I remember, the belt rig was wound around the holster. Anyway, I then had occasion to pick up the one-year old baby for some reason and I brought him in and plopped him down on the bed too...maybe two feet from the rig. Now in truth...it was NOT a conincidence that my Kalifornistan Lib sister-in-law was visiting. I did set the trap...and she jumped! As soon as she walked into the room and saw the gun...and the baby on the bed together...she freaked! [shock] You would not believe her reaction! She started in with the... "OMFG...what is the BABY doing next to that GUN?" I only made matters worse by sarcastically pointing out that: (1)The wasn't NO WAY the boy was going to release the hammer strap, pick up the heavy Colt revolver from the holster, pull back the heavy single action hammer and fire the pistol, (2) I doubted seriously if any adult in the house would have occasion to pick up the gun and finally (3) "THE DAMN THING WASN'T ALIVE...AND IT WASN'T GOING TO JUMP UP OFF THE FUCKING BED AND SHOOT THE BABY OR ANYBODY ELSE...YOU DIMWIT!" Miz LWilde was NOT amused that I tweaked her sister like that. [nono] [flame] [nono] I didn't get lucky that night. [stick]
