The Peacekeepers in Bosnia were armed, but only for self-defense. They just stood by and watched the civilians get slaughtered, as long as the peacekeepers were not threatened.[rolleyes]

The peacekeepers are always armed because they were raised in a military environment from birth, kind of like the spartans. All of them are expected to be warriors, except of course the tech crews. But I guess they would need to have some military knowledge for emergency situations.

For the same reason the HRT ( Hostage Rescue Team ) was at Waco. To save lives of course.
