Thank you for writing me regarding the possible reauthorization of the semi-automatic weapons  ban. I always appreciate you taking the time to share your views on this issue.

At this stage in the l08th Congress, it appears unlikely that House leadership will take action on a bill to reauthorize the assault weapons ban. Although Rep. McCarthy of New York has introduced such a bill, Majority Leader Delay noted that there is not enough support for H.R. 2038 to bring it to the floor. If this bill was brought to the floor, I would not support it. It could be the first step toward enacting bans on other weapons.

I believe that gun control measures, such as registration and taxation, will do nothing to stop guns  from falling into the hands of lawbreakers. Furthermore, the federal government should not be able to keep a registry of gun owners or tax individuals specifically because they own a gun.  Individuals will always find a way to obtain guns in order to commit crimes, and additional
restrictions on gun ownership will do nothing to combat crime. I am a firm believer in the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms. In the l08th Congress, I will maintain my commitment to protecting the rights of law abiding gun owners.

JIM...could you post a sample of what you wrote to your rep?
I want to write to mine, and I want to make sure I dont leave out any good points.

Don't tell anyone but I wrote my email at work so I don't have it at home.  I can get a copy when I go in on Sunday or Monday.

I tried to scan and post the full letter but my scanner/fax/printer only saves as a text file or tif so I couldn't post it.

I can't believe it! A Congressman actually stated his position in a reply! No "I will carefully consider your position" BS, the man actually said "I will not support it."

Double amen.
Next year could be one of the best years in guns we will ever see.

AMEN  And everbody remember to write an e-mail of encouragement to these reps who are standing for us. We have to KEEP them pumped.

have replied to my emails and said that they will NOT support a renewal of the AWB!

Henry Brown is pretty awesome.  I've received about a half-dozen letters from him regarding his support of RKBA.  Also, a friend of mine was getting hosed by military bureaucracy over a medical retirement he deserved following surgery that permanently screwed up his spine.  Henry came to the rescue and the young man got what he deserved.  It's so gratifying to know that there are some good guys in DC.
