They will still be banned from importation right?

But, if an Uzi has enough american made parts it will be legal?

What about barrel length?  We wont be stuck with 16inch barrels when the AWB sunsets?

Yes ,

Yes , and

16" barrel minumum on a rifle 26" overall per NFA of 1934 , anything shorter requires tax stamp.

You will be able to go the pistol route and have a shorter barrel, but could not have a stock.

Go ask the republicans who promised in 1989 that the importation ban would be repealed "real soon".

I'm willing to bet that several U.S. manufacturers are even now in negotiations to build every type of imported "assault weapon" domestically under license.

The demand is going to be INTENSE that great day!

The 26 inch limit is also Federally measured with the stock open/unfolded if equiped with a folder.  An UZI carbine is 24 inches with it's stock closed even though it has a 16 inch barrel.  This being said, keep in mind that some states have additional laws governing length, and require the measurement to be taken with the stock folded/closed.  Michigan and California (suprise) come to mind.

Right now you can buy a legal Uzi from Vector Arms. I think it's made from some surplus parts though. It runs about $800 and has an IMI buttstock, which means you could put an IMI folder on it once the ban sunsets.
