Keeping healthy through sports and widening one’s horizons through travel is not the elixir of life, according to Germany’s oldest man, who celebrated his 110th birthday on Tuesday. According to his daughter, Rita Klein (63) Hermann Dörnemann, who has lived in three centuries, didn’t like to travel and regarded "sports as murder." Dörnemann, who was born in 1893 and is now blind, has outlived all of his seven siblings. He has smoked for much of his life and still enjoys a beer. Klein put his long life down to genes, and a cousin of the senior said he always drank the water used to boil potatoes, “because of the vitamins."
