And if so, what year was the car, what year did they buy it, and what did it cost?  Oh, and what kind of car was it?

I was 18 and still riding the cheesewagon (ever ridden a schoolbus stoned?) or bumming rides to high school with friends that either were spoiled enough to have cars bought for them, or responsible enough to have bought their own.
Once I got arrested and was on probation and actually had to have a documentable income as a condition of my probation, my dad bought me a 1971 Ford Torino for $2k, which I had to pay back.  The year was 1993.

Hell no.  When I wanted a car (this was about 1985) my dad sold me my step-mother's 1977 Cutlass Supreme.  I had to put brakes and a new transmission in it within the first nine months because that bitch beat it up so bad.  I paid $1000 for it.  By late 1986, when I went off to college, it died for good.

When I graduated from high school in 1995, my parents gave me their old abused 1984 Dodge Aries. I sold it right away for $500 cause I didn't think it would make the drive from Florida to Colorado where I got stationed. My older sister got a beat up Chevette when she graduated.

Parents gave me a baby blue '78 Malibu station wagon with vinyl seats (in florida! oooooouuuuuchhhhhh!) in '88. It had 125k miles.

I was on my own for insurance and gas.

Hell, no!  I worked my butt off and saved $2k to buy a used 84 grand marquis (5L V8).  They didn't pay a penny for college, either.  They started pounding that into my head when I was 5 or so:  "You will go to college, and you will need scholarships."

My Folks made me a deal, they would match whatever I could come up with.  I came up with $1500 so I got a $3000 car

It was an 85 Merkur XR4ti,  Insurance was $100 a month just for liability and I made $4.40 and hour at the time.  I had to work ALOT to pay that. I would buy like $2 in gas at a time because I never had any money.

Nope.  Started working when I was 15, and paid $1700 for my first car (1983 280zx 2+2 Turbo) when I was 16.

My LONG term recent-ex-girlfriend on the other hand was handed a Brand new Acura on her 16th B-day, with a gas card. (spoiled girl!) and when she graduated highschool, she got a brand new 4-Runner handed to her, + she got to keep the $ from the sale of her acura. AND her dad bought her a $250,000 house!  She gets a Yacht when she Graduates college, (next year)

I hate her.

guess i'm the spoiled one.
this is the order they gave me vehicles in:
88 chrysler lebaron
87 mazda pickup
88 mazda pickup
95 ford ranger

the lebaron was a piece of shit. all the others have been awesome. the 87 mazda had 226,000 when i got rid of it. the 88 mazda had 195,000. neither of which had any problems at all. the ranger has 140,000 and it still runs like a top. my parents think that at 100,000 that a vehicle is going to fall apart, so they give them to me.

total spent on both vehicles. 2000 dollars.
I hope I can do the same for my kids.

Hell no!

I got my first car, a VW, for 300.00 bks.

That thing broke down more times than I could count, but if I wanted to drive and not take the MTA then I had to get cracking at wrenching the thing myself.

They didn't pay for college either or my first house down payment.I got NOTHING [:(]

Anytime I asked my Dad about buying me a car he would say "I had to work 24/7 a week to buy my first car.I drove from Mi to Ca on a 25 dollar Model T in snow, rain, blazing heat in 1930 something and paid for my own college education working for your Uncle Jay in the salt mines.I can give you a fish and you can eat for a day or I can teach you to fish and you eat for a lifetime"

Thanks Dad. Thanks for teaching me the value of a buck.

It was 1983 and it was a 1975 Mustang II with a 4 cylinder 5 speed transmission without A/C.

It cost $400.00 and we had to rebuild the engine in it!

It was 1980 something!

Nope, never bought me a car.

However, my dad had a friend that was selling his sons 88 Buick Park Avenue because it was in an accident.

I bought the car for $100, spent some time in a junk yard looking for a new headlight assembly, and a few other parts, got everythign I needed for $150, fixed the bumper, welded a piece to hold the bumper bracked back up, put new brakes on it, and had a good as new car.

Car, plus repairs and brakes came to approx. $350. Not too bad for my first car. Gets me from point A to point B without any problems. Once I finish the car I am currently restoring, it will me my winter beater. BTW, this was about three months ago.

Dad let me keep his '88 Cherokee when I graduated from college in '99.

It had 180,000 miles on it at the time.  I sold it at 200,000 miles for $2,500 and bought my own car.  I bought my first AR15 with some of that money.

My wife's dad gave her $10,000 for a car.  I paid an additional $2,500 and bought a used 97 Stratus.  I mostly drive that car now.  It has 105,000 miles on it and still runs great.  No problems so far!

My first car was my moms 1988 Chevy Corsica tha I got when she bought a new car. I was going to pay her for it, but I wrecked it the day I got my first job. I was going to pay her back, but she wouldnt take the money. I then bought my next two cars with my own money.

Dad let me drive a 67 Chevelle wagon that he put racing stripes on and a set of Cragers.  Had to share it with my little bro when he got his license.  I ended up wrecking it.  Traded the engine for a POS 62 Impala.  Me and little bro shared the Impala until we both joined the Marines in June of 81.  My brother sold the POS Impala to our recruiter before he shipped out to boot camp.

I bought my first car, a 1976 Ford Granada.  It was $70!  I bought it in 1987.

It ran great, but had such frame damage that if you let go of the steering wheel it would make a complete left hand turn all by itself!

My parents baught me my first two cars! [:D]

The first car was 1972 Pontiac Catalina! This was in "85" when I first got my licence!  They wanted to make sure I a had huge boat so people could see me coming and get out of the way.

The second one was one of my favorites, a Fire Engine red 1979 Jeep CJ7!  Man that Jeep was blast!  I started dating the future Mrs. Yojimbo while I had it and we had some fun in that CJ7... [naughty]

Yes, my parents bought me my first car, a 1963 Dodge Dart 4 door with a 225 Slant Six and push button automatic. Cost them all of around $150-200 in 1976. Great little car, wish I still had it.

But I had to buy the gas, tires, oil, etc., and insurance was mandatory per parents. I paid for it all.

I've had to pay for every other vehicle since.

My first car is a '66 Mustang coupe.  Strait six automatic and is still being "restored".  I'm just about done stripping/priming and after summer school will go to the paint booth.  They paid 4,000 and I paid another 1,000.  They engine was all rebuilt and the body good and strait.  Only body work i've done is a little rust repair under the old paint and regular stuff, brakes, lines, gastank.. not bad for this old of a car.  I've got picturesHere.  They've been great about putting some money with mine to help me get it looking decent.  But with a car like this when it gets sold (hopefully years from now) we'll make money.

On a small side note this is my 16th post, ERIEE!!

Drove mom's Bronco II when I turned 16.  It was rare that I got to drive it though.

Dad bought an 84 Ford Escort station wagon (165K miles, diesel engine) from one of his co-workers for $500 and gave it to me during my senior year.  I drove it a little more than a month and then it died.

Went back to driving the Bronco II whenever it was free.  Mom bought a 90 Cutlass Supreme after I graduated from HS, gave me the Bronco II.

Drove the Bronco II until the tranny started to go in early 98.  Mom bought a new van and gave my wife & I the 90 Cutlass.  We drove that Cutlass up until last summer.

I was driving the Cutlass everywhere, had mud all over it from taking it on some nasty logging roads while fishing.  Dad felt sorry for me and took the Bronco II (which he ended up giving away) and gave me his 87 Wrangler.  I drove the Wrangler for about 3 months, then it caught on fire.  Took forever to get a new valve cover, I ended up buying a used pickup.  Finally got the Jeep fixed, ended up selling it to a friend.

So, in a roundabout way, I guess they've bought me a car or two.  Nothing like my sister though.  She turned 16 and they went and bought her a fairly new Suzuki mini-SUV.

I guess I'm the little spoiled kid of the bunch. I got a red '92 3000GT VR4 a couple of months before I turned 16 in 1992. Then when some jackass pulled out in front of me and it got totaled in late '93 my dad bought me a brand new 1994 black 5.0 Mustang. He paid cash for both of them.

I've still got the Mustang and I just recently bought the first car that I've paid for. A jacked up black 4x4 Yukon. [:)]

first was a '92 jeep wranger
then a '98 350 4x4 3/4 ton extended cab
now a '01 496 4x4 496 3/4 hd

all were hand me downs except for the '98 though

had to pay my own college though. and by the way, anybody that thinks working for family is easy................has never worked for family

They bought me a brand new 1985 red Honda Accord.  At first, my mom wanted to buy me a BMW 320i but I think that's a little of a stretch for someone like myself. At 18, I was smart enough to think practical and that is why I wanted the Honda Accord.
