OK. I've been cutting my own hair for a while with a Wahl home clipper. The old buzz-cut is pretty easy, but kind of a mess. Just moved into a new house, and Mrs. Benz laid down the law and said, "No more cutting your hair in our bathroom!" and meant it.

So I have a couple options: do it in the garage or on the deck, which is fine. Or, go and get it cut, which I do from time to time anyway, just to keep my handiwork in check. It seems, though, that barbershops are getting $11-12 for a haircut, and the places in the mall a little less. The thing is, with a short haircut like mine (and I presume, many of yours) a guy actually needs to get his hair cut MORE often than those with longer hair. So, I'm not too anxious to start dropping $12 every 3 weeks.

I am actually starting to hate getting haircuts, anyway. I've been tempted many times to just buzz the shit down to the wood and be done with it. The problem is, one of the few things I hate more than getting a haircut is shaving. And the only thing I hate more than shaving is having a beard.

Advice? ... Nair? ... Dredlocks? ... Stop bitching and just pony up a dozen bucks for a proper haircut?

It is up to almost $6 at Ft Sam Houston now. I still like those Army haircuts after all these years.

My wife has done mine a time or two, but she won't cut it as short as I like it. I have to keep telling her that she can't take too much off, but she's hesitant to really tackle it. Sometimes I'll have her help me trim my neckline or something, but in general cutting hair is one of the very few domestic tasks that Mrs. Benz has no affinity for.

Back in the pre-Mrs. Benz days, I dated a girl that worked in a small beauty salon. She used to cut my hair, but I had some long-ass hair back then. Mostly she'd just run her fingers through it and ...

... never mind.

I used to do mine over a trash barrel with clippers back in HS and early in college. I've grown the top out now just enough to part it and look semi-respectable, so I just pony up the $12 every 3 weeks or so. It's worth it if you find someone that knows what s/he's doing.

One word:  FLOWBEE.
Bought one ten years ago for $45, and a set of Wahl clippers for $30, and never looked back.  The Flowbee hooks up to your vacuum cleaner.  No mess.  Clippers are just for 'necks and backs.'

MY girl charges $14.00, but I give her twenty as she is a drop-dead gorgeous blonde, built like an outhouse constructed by a mason, and washes it when she's done while shaking her large breasts in my face.  Twenty bucks once a month somehow seems cheap.  I just went yesterday.    [:D]

I shave my head once a week. If I have to go some where special, I shave my head again. With the job I have now I have to shave my face every day but the first chance I get to grow a beard I will.Of course I have more hair on my ass than what I have on my head.(_!_)

You must be a hell of a lot better looking than me, which isn't saying much. My head wouldn't be worth $45 if I had a $50 bill stapled to my forehead!

I go to an oldfashioned men's Barbershop and pay $10.00 for a haircut, Im due for a haircut
tommorrow [:)] I like a professional haircut,
because I have a longer hairstyle that I like to comb to the the side, like President George Bush's hairstyle [businessmen's cut] I cant stand a shaved head or a butch, I think people
were meant to have a head of hair, a shaved
head looks silly on some people, there's no style to it? looks too plain in my opinion, but
if your losing your hair and have a high hairline then shaving your head looks better
than a big bald spot. I usually say I want a
tapered cut and squared in the back of my neck.
I sure see a lot of guys with a shaved head these days, it looks funny if you have a white
bald head, it looks better on black guys though. But it's your hair [ROFL2]

I have shaved my own for years.  Then we started having "haircut night" and his good looking friend of ours, who is a hair stylest, comes over once every couple of weeks and cuts everyones hair for them.  There is usually 8-10 people that get together, eat munchies and have drinks.  She cuts our hair and we "tip" her but it is basically free, not to mention a good time.  She is stacked and has a habit of rubbing her hooters all over me while she is trimming.

So tell Mrs Benz that you will either cut your hair where ever you want or you will start going to 2whiskeyP's to get a trim by my hottie friend![;)]

my barber charges $12.  i usually just give him $15.  i cut my own hair sometimes but i prefer going to the barber.  they put warm shaving cream on my neck and around my ears.  he then uses a straight razor to clean it up.  the cream feels great after the clippers.

I go as little as possible, and then just have it cut 3/4" all the way around. Usually about ten bucks.

I forgot to add, the room I'm sitting in now (my bedroom) used to be a barber shop where my great-grandpa cut hair before he died. He had been a barber in the Navy during WWII and charged $7. 99% of his customers were long-time friends, and I would guess more than half of his money came from tips that he really didn't want.

$20.  I've paid more and less lately but this seems to be the average price.  OK with me as I get a cut every 4-6 weeks depending on how short the last one was.

I go to a Vietnamese shop that charges $2.99 for a man's cut - nothing fancy, if you want it short that's what they give you. I usually pay the girl $5 tip included.

These Vietnamese girls are pretty good, not cosmotology students, but Texas-licensed hair stylists. I even had a date with one...but I'll not do that again...all I got was losing a good stylist!

Nine bucks; we used to shave each other's head with a Philips/Norelco with the head that's adjustable between 3mm and an inch, but I moved and my buddies didn't, which means there's no one to quality-check what I'm doing anymore. Back to the barbershop girls :-)

Um.  Ok, this is one of the dangers of the Internet:  I don't know your gender.  If your avatar is a picture of you, then I would say $45 was a good price, considering the quality.  But if you're a guy, that seems excessive.  (BTW: if the former is the case, you're very attractive.  [;)])

Get this, it's for a flattop!

Years ago, some unlicensed lady didn't know WTF she was doing.  She didn't even understand simple commands in English!  Damm foreigners!

Now, I pay more knowing I'm guaranteed a nice cut rather than paying less and taking a chance with some unknown.

I've been using the same stylist for probably ten years now.

That's my g-friend Jennifer Love Hewitt!

Oh ya, it's a set price and I can get any style I want but choose flattop because it's easy to fix in the morning.  Price includes multiple designer shampoo rinses, of course.

Well, she doesn't wear makeup, and cleans up after herself. Furthermore, I don't think that her reasonable objection to hair clippings all over the new house constitute being walked all over by a "whench." (sic) And if you think that "putang" (sic) is all that having a wife is about, then obviously you don't need one. Thanks for your valuable insight, Casanova.

Wife cuts mine and two sons, Flowbee.  Works great, no mess.  It's a little loud, but that's OK.
It's similar to the vacuum setup that they had at NAS Oceana when I was a kid; very clean.

Free. Bought the clippers 5 years ago for 20 bucks.
About once a month or so I step into the shower (with the water off) and give myself a haircut. Round up all the clipped hair, dump it in the trash and take a shower to rinse off.
