I realize that participants to this site come from a variety of places on the political/emotional spectrum, but I wonder:

Do many of you agree with the liberals who claim that it is wrong to call a fat person "fat"?  Ought we continue to tell everyone that they're "OK," that "grades don't matter," that "you are just as good as everyone else," that you are not a liability to your own health because we are worried that they may consider this to be an insult?  Lots of chubby, pudgy little children running around nowadays, and the obesity in the US continues to, well, grow. . .

I'm interested in the opinions of this strong, proud, crowd.

Thanks,

I use the term "fat" because being fat isn't something that deserves to be overlooked.  There's nothing good about a society of lard bodies waddling around and there's no reason to make fatties feel better about themselves so that they accept the porky nature of existance.

Now that's not to say I go around pointing fingers at the fatasses, I just don't sugar coat it by calling them "less angular."  Fat is fat.

Fat is fat.  This is [b][red]not[/b][/red] South Park, they're not big boned.  I have nothing against fat people, except the ones in fat people carts in WalMart.  My 81 year old grandmother had a hip replaced and she wouldn't ride in those carts and that's who they're for, old and , dare I say it, crippled people.  I've been un-PC enough for tonight.

Former fatass speaking here.
No,fat is NOT okay.
I wish my parents would have not allowed me to get fat in the first place.
I took a whole crapload of bullcrap for it from other kids, and it took a lot of work to lose the damn lard.

I'm wondering whether it should be considered neglect if your kid gets fat...
But then again the last thing we really need is more laws...

I think we're gonna have to do something to reinforce the fact that it is not okay to become a human walrus.

For most people, being fat is really a lack of discipline.
And discipline is a concept kids these days have no idea about...

But then again, why would you feel a need to comment to a person about their weight? Is it affecting you? Do you feel better making someone else feel like shit? What makes any of you so perfect?

Where does it stop? Is it ok to bash homosexuals? People who wear turbins? People with one leg? Midgets? Disabled? Guys with ugly wives? Wives with ugly husbands? Women with little boobs? Bald guys? etc..etc...etc...

I think people who don't mind their OWN business and have to get into someone elses by belittleing them has GOT to be inadequate in one way or another and the only way they can feel good is by making someone else feel like shit...

And all of you have 2% body fat, gorgeous wives, and 8" weiners, right? Give me a break!

Ok..Kids..Let's do it for the children... In my very humble (but outspoken) opinion, it should be the PARENTS job to see the kid isn't eating crap all day. Just like it's the parents job to teach Jr about guns. Or to get their ass to school. Or to discipline them rather than having a teacher do it! Or to make sure they're not playing with matches...

It's not OUR'S nor the STATE'S job to raise someone elses child. Just like it's not our job to tell someone they're a fatass...And it's not THEIR job to tell you what you need to change in YOUR life. Whether it is PC or not...

In this country we have a right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness..If it makes Bubba happy drinking a 6 pack, eating a bag of chips and a whole pizza, then it's HIS problem when his ticker stops early...

It's like Michael Moore or Rosie O'Donnell. Yes, IMO they're idiots with big mouths. But after their remarks, how many posts here did you read that focused on their weight? It isn't their weight that is the problem. What if they were pro gun and they were kicking ass in Washington to overturn all the gun laws? Would their weight be an issue?

People need to let other people live their lives like they want to instead of telling them how to...

i say that the current trend in soceity today of the perfect body is truly skewed for the people of today. For the masses, it is rather unachieveable, don't you think. Not everyone can have washboard abs or a supermodel body. if you can't tell,

I am not exactly an Abercrombie model myself.

i'm not a real fatass but i'm not that skinny either, and believe me its not fun going through life with the stigma of bieng a big dude. I was the fat kid. It did affect me and my way of thinking. i will admit it puts the block on many things in life, but bieng a strong willed person can help you around that. It did for me. Bieng fat is one of the last things in life that people are free to make fun of. no, its not OK to bash gay people, the elderly, the handicapped, or other cultures/races/religions. And I absolutely hate it when people think big people are stupid or something! I hate it when people talk down to me and then I come back with something really intellegent. Just cuz im big im stupid all of a sudden. I'd rather be fat and smart than skinny and stupid any day! Ask someone you know that question today for shits and giggles. See what they say and think about it.

If you are truly obese to the point of physical handicap, then something needs to be done. Tell yourself you need help and get it.

If you have something against fat people in general pull your head out of your ass and think logically!

And i also agree that if your child is extremely obese, there should be something done, but there is no easy answer for this question, so I wont even go there.

Any time a person is less than perfect in appearance or genetics it should be pointed out and they should be ridiculed mercilessly by those of us who are perfect. It is our solemn duty. It is the cross that must be borne by the genetically gifted.

YES! If you're fat, I'm not sorry, PUT DOWN THE FREAKING FORK and get some exercise.

And murder is murder.

I'm so sick of the dumbing down of our society. The incessant worry about hurting someone's feelings that we will pass school children as opposed to holding them back one year to make sure THEY CAN FREAKING READ at their own grade level.

Worry about hurting a foreigners feelings so instead of insisting that they learn English, we make everything from street signs to menu's in their language. This is AMERICA, learn English!

Worry about offending a foreigners god so we lobby to take prayer out of schools, the Ten Commandments off the walls of our courts, "in God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance and off our money, it's a travesty I tell ya, and it's a BIG part of the reason this country is going through the trouble it is. We have left God, I sure hope He does not leave us.

The feminization of the boy's in our country and the attempt to toughen up our girls. Look no matter how hard you try boy's will (generally) always be a little stronger, faster etc. than girls and there are lots of things that our girls will always be (generally) better at than boy's. It's how God made you, instinctively, it's in your genetic makeup. Quit trying to nullify the lines of difference between boy's and girl's.

Call it what it is people. I could go on but this has become a rant [soapbox] and I didn't intend for it to be one. [peep]

While some people are genetically fat, most aren't. Just looking at all the fat kids when I was in highschool, I would always expect them to have waddling lard ass parents, but many times they didn't. I know plenty of people who BLAMED genetics, then got pissed one day and proved otherwise. Gluttony is one of the deadly sins for a reason.

Someyimes you should just call a spade a spade.  The words 'skinny', 'short', 'tall', 'ugly', and 'attractive' are all just as blunt as 'fat'.  It's not the words themselves, but the condition they describe.  Calling me thin or slim or anything else doesn't change the fact that I'm real skinny.  Just like calling someone big boned or husky won't take an ounce off of them.  Now, I'm not advocating running around yelling "fatty" and "beanpole" at people, but if something needs description, why tiptoe around the effective merey because they have unpleasant connotations?

Sir, I don't think that the issue is "bashing," rather I think that it has do to with the term "fat."

In your terms, I think that it's acceptable to call a homosexual a "homosexual."  Likewise, I think that it's generally OK to call a person who wears a turban "a person who wears a turban."  A person who has got only one leg may be described as "a person with one leg," a midget may be called a "midget."
Do you understand the sentiment behind my question?

If someone hasn't got any hair on their head, is "bald" rude?  What is better?  "Head hairless"?  A "smoothie"?

I live in a "PC" area (as thedave1164 has indicated), but I've not heard objections like yours before.  This is a matter of description, not judgment, I think; and so your perception of "belittling" or inadequacy may not be entirely appropriate.

Fat isn't "fat" to you?

Share your thoughts, please, 'cause I'm interested.

I suppose that you are trying to make your point through sarcasm.

How to describe, then, the "fat"?  The "ugly"?  The "smelly"?  The "bald"?  The "[whatever]"
What terms are more appropriate?

Boy, we ALL seem to have alot of extra time on our hands today, huh?  [;D]

Describing someone to another person as fat is different than saying "you're fat" to their face.  I am comfortable doing the first, but not the second.  Isn't everybody?

I've seen 3 and 4 year olds who haven't figured that out yet, but otherwise, I'd expect adults to know better.

Why should you tell someone that you think they're fat?  What's the point?  Just because you can?

There is a freakin double standard though.  I'm 6' 5", 170, 10% bf.  It's "mean" to comment that people are fat, but apparently it's perfectly acceptable to say "Wow, you are skinny!" "You look like a string bean!" "How's the air up there 'stretch?'" and assorted other comments about shoe size, finding actual clothes that fit, etc. etc.  Geez.  Now that I'm an adult it doesn't bother me so much but growing up I hated it.

Ban fat... for the children?

I think we need a new government program where an ice cream truck romps around our neighborhoods looking for fat kids. The truck pulls over, little Johny Walrus wobbles close to the vehicle and then a crack L.A.R.D (liposuction automated response de-fatters) team bursts forth to recue him from himself with pre-ban liposuction guns set to "happy walrus" mode.

Its that simple.

But I prefer OBESE DISGUSTING FATBODY!  That's right you overweight poor excuse for a slob.  You are waisting extremly valuable oxygen by breathing and having it sent directly to the lard around your ass, thighs, chins, gut, and that overworked, diseased, purply mass of former muscle called a heart.  Do you know who I'm talking about?
Me!
I stopped eating at the fat distribution centers known as Macdonalds, Burger King, and Wendy's.  I stopped gussling Coke.  I started drinking the best diet drink ever, water.  I at salads instead of fries when I did eat at the fat centers.  I lost 55 lbs.
