I did not want to hijack the other thread. This story got me to thinking that just maybe, in light of the Blair fiasco at the N.Y. Times, media executives are starting to take a look at the veracity of their reporting. Do you think that the law of unintended consequences is acting in a positive manner and that CNN is an example of a sea change? Or, am I just being entirely too optimistic?

I'll wait and see. Some of the above factors, and their slipping in the ratings, may cause them to put extra effort into restoring their credibility. You'd think they would have put a bit more serious thought into the original piece before airing it. As I learned in the military, it only takes one "Oh crud!" to wipe out a hundred "Attaboys!"
