C'mon guys!  If by cool you mean, "completely unflappable - throw a shit storm at him and he doesn't even blink", then the choice is obvious.

Sgt. Joe Friday (played by either Jack Webb or Ed O'Neill, they're both great)

"Flinch and you'll be chasing your head down Fifth Street."

RAY, as played by Nick Mancuso in television's Stingray, was an ex-Intelligence operative and enigmatic loner who helped people with their problems when they contacted him through a newspaper ad:

Stingray.
For Barter Only.

Rockford!!!.....Alltime coolest guy......I wish he was my uncle!

Gawd you guys remind me of alot a old shows.

I loved that "tales of the golden monkey" show!

I also aways thought the equalizer's little hidden gun display was killer!Always wanted to have one just like it when I was a kid.Still do.

I'd also put in a vote for the dude that played the original "fugitive",he got alot of babes in black and white. Was very cool and collected for always being on the run.

And you just cannot leave out Chris from "northern exposure",very cool dude.....attracts the honey's with his scent for cryin out loud.....and always with the timely, hip phylosophy nuggets.....
