Yes, leave it even thickness for heat treat and then after the last heat cycle, quench in liquid nitrogen.

The rapid temperature change will align the kernels in the same direction, making the grind much easier and thereby much less likely to ruin the heat treat.

Look forward to seeing the end result.

Just don't post pictures of your dirty hands with the knife.

I bought a knife from this guy.*

Just saw the warranty he gave someone else:

Nice, right?

Then you compare it to the warranty he gave me, and you ask, WTF is this guy drinking? Paint thinner? Or worse, Busch Lite?

Good feedback, thank you. The Native is a nicely ergonomic knife that is a bit on the small side.

I want to replace the FRN scales on it with something a little more substantive, but I'm not finding too much. A couple folks that randomly make custom scales, but it'd be nice to find something in stock as opposed to waiting three months. Anyone have a good suggestion?

I'm digging the patina that's forming. My PM2 even got a little taste of it.

So, I left this review on BladeHQ about the Heretic Cleric (I purchased it from them before WIC, Esq, had his fit). It's a $300 OTF double-action with a blade made from 154CM:

Rattles like a baby toy.

Lots of flaws with this knife.

1. It sounds like a maraca when it's closed. Just walking with this knife in your pocket is almost as bad as a jingling key ring. It rattles when open too, just not quite as bad.

2. The firing mechanism is so rough that it sometimes takes two thumbs to retract until it gets worn in - which took a thousand-ish activations.

3. The blade grind is not symmetrical. The flat on the "front" (the face of the blade on the same side as the thumb slide) is about a quarter-inch longer than on the flat on the "back".

4. Something inside the handle rubs on the blade when it opens and closes. This has left a mark that runs vertically the entire length of the blade, bisecting the logo.

Not recommended.

There are no other reviews of that knife on BladeHQ and they have not made my review public after several days. I'M SHOCKED. Maybe the good Esquire's opinion on BladeHQ/Grindworx/Chodechoker is valid?

Thanks, I enjoyed it.  Had to stay home sick with a cold today while my wife went to see her family for the meal. Brought me back some. It's one of my favorite meals. We usually get our corn beef briskets from Aldi. They have some good ones for the money. Not sure we have tried Costco's corned beef. Maybe too big for our crock pot? Not sure why if not.

Anywho, her dad always makes a lot and tries to dial it in to my tastes as I am the most discerning eater in the group and I tell him if his food ain't up to snuff.

Happy to say he nailed it this year.  He got a 20 pound brisket from Restaurant Depot and cooked it perfectly. He was texting me tonight how he did it to get it just right and how next year he said he is doing 40 pounds.

Corned beef, cabbage, carrots, swiss cheese and soda bread.  The soda bread they actually get from Piggly Wiggly.  There is something special about the soda bread from their local branch, really good.

Finally have something to add to this thread. Just got back from the Bark River Grind in. Was pretty neat, might make a thread on it if time allows. PM me if you are going to go to one, I've got some tips as I was first timer.

Did a kitchen knife in 20CV with Elder Burl scales and a outdoor-ish knife in 154 with ziricote scales.

Nearly everyone who works at bark river smokes. If you are sensitive to such things, this is not the event you want to go to let's just leave it at that. I think the summer one would be less smokey because they could have the doors/windows open.
Brought my own respirator, here is a pic of a clean filter and a few hours in the grinding room.

Got a new ZT 808 on the way.
I traded some PMags for it.

There is something about the smaller ti knives that attract me.
It has the solid back spacer on it that I may change to stand-offs to change the look and make lighter.

20CV? I wouldn't think they would have any on hand.  Mike seems to be mildly against it (as opposed to strongly against it like he is against S30V). I'm a little surprised. But it makes for a hell of a cutter. Interested to hear how it holds up in the kitchen.

Only had it a minute or two......build quality and action are superb.  Razor sharp edge as well.

The bronze is really understated as well compared to the K-2.  Doesn't really look all that different from the plain satin titanium version.

I think I'll pick up a blue ano/brass inlay version while they're still available as well.  I measured the blade at exactly, dead nuts 4" long.  It has a lot of distal taper too and is reminiscent of another knife I really liked---my ZT0392BLK.  That had a double hump drop point too and was my first full titanium knife (oops, no it wasn't the ZT0450TI was) but I ended up selling it as it was only 3.6".  The clip is relieved much more than the K-2 and is just as "springy" as spring clips.  Beautiful grinds yet again too.

Well Crap, I never confirmed with one of the Stewarts, it's second hand info and the blanks weren't marked. Could be 154, I have to question life now. Maybe I'll send them a message next week. Everyone was working a 12 Day shift on account of the Grind in.

There were a bunch of kids around, I'm not sure who was whose. Jackie sat next to me for dinner Fri and Sat, I didn't get into much family conversations. I know how running events like that can be, it takes alot out of you. I kept it light but she is very nice and personable.

The Employees and the Stewarts were all fantastic, everyone was super helpful and patient even for a slob with no skills like myself. I've read about some of the transgressions, none of that was represented in the short time I was there.
