I found out recently that I’ve been suckered into a big family vacation with my in-laws, two BILs and their chicks out in Rehoboth Beach this summer. Since Uncle Joe’s lair doesn’t allow blades longer than 3 inches, I found myself shopping again. Damn.  Well, I do have a Spyderco Native, but fuck FRN. Seriously, I hate it. If my wife hadn’t gotten it for me back when we were dating, it would have been gone long, long ago. Anyways, my new beach knife:

I get something like a months worth of letters marked "Returned to Sender, no such person at this address" in giant red stamped letters across a stack of letters.
The DI that night was the "heavy", (mean one)...I get handed a PILE of letters at mail call that night.
"Dont worry son, the Corps is your family now."

That was fucking awful.

Got letters the following week with the new address.
Mom still feels bad to this day.

The first letter I got in basic from my mom had my name misspelled. I am an only child. And she made it rhyme with my last name so the DS's had fun with that.

My dad joined the Navy and did 4 years. When he left, my grandparents owned a farm. When he got home he went to the farm only to find out they had moved to town.

It is not the same one I bought from you, (still have that one by the way).

This is another Boker Burnley Kwaiken, this one came as a flipper and wearing cocobolo scales.
It's VG10 steel and one of the scales has a sharp point at the end that makes it uncomfortable to hold on to for long.
I really ought to send it out to someone to get micarta scales for it and a better pocket clip.
I'd carry it more often.
I've had it almost 2 years now and it doesnt get carried often.

This may sound simple but it's absolutely the truth and is apparent if you handle one in person: precision. I've had fifteen different ones, I think (three at present) and all but one have been pretty much perfect in build and machining. The details, the amount of machine time involved, the design, everything about them is a step above. You may wonder how that can be the case but until you hold one it's hard to wrap your head around it. They are definitely in the realm of diminishing returns, but if Spyderco is a Chevy, Chris Reeve is a Mercedes, and Shirogorov is a Ferrari. Then you get full customs which would be maybe Rolls-Royce or something.
