In an era of stress and anxiety, when the present seems unstable and the future unlikely, the natural response is to withdraw from reality, taking recourse in fantasies of the future or in modified visions of a half-imagined past.

Originally Posted By rbb2: Made 5+ quarts of marinara yesterday, and six pints of pickled green beans today. Seemed like a lot of work (time, more than work, really) for 5 quarts of sauce, but it turned out very good. Recipe called for 4 cups of fennel bulb, but I couldn't find that anywhere, so we could probably have gotten another quart of sauce if we had that. Picked up a Buck Onset for nearly half the new cost. As a kid, Buck was what you wanted for a "good" knife, so I wanted to try it out. S45, G10, frame lock, bearings. Pros: very comfortable handle, the grind is good, blade stock is on the thin side, detent and action are on point, clean lines, excellent pocket clip. Cons: blade's a bit short; lockbar tension is on the high side and access to it is very tight; has a bit of side to side play when not locked but I haven't tried to tweak the pivot yet and it's solid when locked up; steel, not titanium, for the lock side handle; overpriced. Overall it's a nice looking user grade knife that is perfectly functional and pretty ergonomic but doesn't really do anything better than many other knives, and has a couple minor to medium flaws. It's not worth what they sell it for at retail, for sure, but it's a nice enough knife if purchased used. https://i.imgur.com/OXlnQ9Y.jpg View Quote I like the realistic review . Its helpful. And rhats a seriously legit amount of marinara to carry into the winter |

You're going to be SOL then. There are some cheap knives that are OK for most folks, but I don't think there's anyone making Spyderco quality knives any cheaper. Anything comparable is right there with them on price. |
