Five too many though. 15V does sound intriguing (especially since I don't have maxamet), but if I had to pick I'd still say 10V for the toughness.

Cold Steel was pre buyout. Not sure if that is still true.

I regularly smoke the CAO Flathead 770s, but they’re not for beginners, or pikers.

Great, long smokes and I’ve been through probably 50 boxes.

Nobody is and that’s a problem not solely in the knife world but everywhere. Inflation is destroying affordability.

My gripe with spyderco is that they were the good deal knife company. You got a lot for your money. Now not so much and in some cases you’d be better off avoiding them entirely. So now what? Must one go to the Chinese makers to get value in their knives under a certain budget? I do t want to do that, but I also refuse to spend what spyderco thinks they’re worth.

Not to be outdone by the company making Boker Plus for them, the Solingen boys had to make the blade slightly off center. On purpose I'm sure.

25 lbs. of Romas, strained and then cooked down by about 1/3. Seemed like a lot of work (time, more than work, really) for 5 quarts of sauce, but it turned out very good. Recipe called for 4 cups of fennel bulb, but I couldn't find that anywhere, so we could probably have gotten another quart of sauce if we had that.

Picked up a Buck Onset for nearly half the new cost. As a kid, Buck was what you wanted for a "good" knife, so I wanted to try it out. S45, G10, frame lock, bearings. Pros: very comfortable handle, the grind is good, blade stock is on the thin side, detent and action are on point, clean lines, excellent pocket clip. Cons: blade's a bit short; lockbar tension is on the high side and access to it is very tight; has a bit of side to side play when not locked but I haven't tried to tweak the pivot yet and it's solid when locked up; steel, not titanium, for the lock side handle; overpriced. Overall it's a nice looking user grade knife that is perfectly functional and pretty ergonomic but doesn't really do anything better than many other knives, and has a couple minor to medium flaws. It's not worth what they sell it for at retail, for sure, but it's a nice enough knife if purchased used.

You're going to be SOL then. There are some cheap knives that are OK for most folks, but I don't think there's anyone making Spyderco quality knives any cheaper. Anything comparable is right there with them on price.
