SUh weet, I'm pumped...how many "confirmed" do you have now Steyr?
|
|
Reagrding Kali shipments, I'm "willing" to do it but need to cover my ass when dealing with Socialist States.
I'm mostly covered since I will only be shipping to a Kali FFL, BUT I would like to have a copy of the regs. before I do. I'd be more than happy to remove the mag and pistol grip to make the FALs Kali compliant. I just wanna stay legal. I'll take a informal poll in a few days to see how many we got. |
|
Groovy on all counts. Do you have a dealer you usually work with in Houston? I have an FFL here, but figure this would save trouble.
Not 100% in yet, but pretty damn close |
|
Great. Just f*cking great. Here I am, just almost ready to finish my all Colt M4gery, just almost ready to finally have my match rifle upper built. I purposefully avoided this thread for fear of being side tracked. Then, like an idiot, I click on it.
Dammit Steyr, you are going to cause me to alter my entire plan, and it was the very first time I had managed to have a plan. I want one. Dammit! I'm in. Now I have to decide on configuration. Great. Now I have to plan that too. Thanks dude.... Edited to add: Make mine a Type II, rifle length. |

This is the rifle that I have always wanted but gotta get this credit card paid off |

Get em while they're hot and Steyr's being extremely generous! I'm in for two. Sorry, I've already said that but I'm just too excited...
I'll probably post the same thing again tomorrow![bounce] |

For California, the relevent law is SB23, which went into effect 1/1/2000. Entreprise is still selling FALs in CA. They ship the pistol grip in a separate shipment. It's all perfectly legal.

If any of you are worried about the muzzle brake noise I am sending out a test batch of muzzle brake covers for the AR-10 and could just as easily make them for the DSA. IM me if you are interested. Planerench out.

View Quote No, you can own the pistol grip it but you cannot attach it. If you attach it the rifle becomes an unregistered AW, and you're in deep doodoo. Entreprise just ships the pistol grip in a separate box. I have heard some here say that the CA-legal FALs are being shipped without the pistol grip screw, but this isn't true either. Every one I've seen is just a normal FAL minus the pistol grip. The law for AR15s is totally different. They are banned series. Note DSA has their CA-legal FAL which gives one the impression that it must have a fixed 10-round mag and a stripper clip fed top cover. This it not the law either. It's more like an attempt to sell you a $1,600 FAL. I have purchased FAL receivers after 1/1/2000, and I'm pretty sure my dealer wouldn't handle the transfer if it was illegal. |

OK currently we have 8 confirmed and a handful of "maybes."
For IN I have: Ed Sr. Green18 Hokie (for 2) albob gus One guy who's in but asked to remain nameless and one guy from another board. If you are named on the list make sure you are 100%, if not please IM or email me so I can adjust the master list. If you want to upgrade from "maybe" to 100% in please IM or email me. Like I said I'm gonna leave this up for awhile to let people get their funds in order (approx. 30 days). Say March 14 will be D Day to start the ball rolling. I'm not gonna collect money or FFLs until that date (March 14). Also I don't have a network of FFLs I work with. If you don't have a FFL that you buy from locally a week prior to March 14 email me and I will try and find a local FFL for you. Be more than happy to do that for anyone. Until that time, we have 8, looking for 2 more and that is the update. |
|
I'll reiterate - I'm IN! I'm phyched now that I've had a day to adjust my vision.....Mar. 14 should be no problemo.

What do you all think of this for a first-time rifle buyer?
It looks like a nice rifle, but I'm not sure if buying online from a private party would be the way to go for a first time purchase of this many $'s, especially when I haven't shot one before or handled one. Anyone know of any stores in Virginia where I can look at one? Only thing I've shot are M-16A2's, M240G's and, of course, M-198's. |

View Quote Are the carbine barrels more prone to getting too hot than the standards? Does yours get very hot legs? View Quote That depends on who you ask! But yes, the carbine does get hot. I will probably buy the SA58 hand rails. They are a little bigger and I think it will cut down a little on the heat. Not very much though, I just like how they look. I bump fire all the time so I use my magic Michael Jackson golf glove when the rifles get to hot. |

View Quote I don't believe they updated their website in some time. Among other things they are also only using parts in exc. or new condition. The warranty above is verbatim, typed by me from my warranty which is serial numbered to my last stg58 acquired in the last month. |

Heh, you typed all that?? Well, I'll be a happy camper if it's true.. as I own two of these..

|
Yes, I do. But, I never made the connection from what they say on the website to what's on the blue card. The stg's are not listed on that card and are hand written in. So, from what's on the website, I belived it was only the "NEW" parts as stated. I also figured they were too lazy to print up another card from 1997..
By the way, do you actually think they had a website going back to 1997? That would be 6 years they didn't update the "NEW PARTS" only warranty. Of course, the prices are up to date.. :) edited to add.. And by the way, in NY there is 'no' requirement to send in any warranty card to get warranty coverage. All you have to do is prove a purchase date and that in fact it was bought new (sales recipt). A *nice* law brought to you by a mostly liberal controlled state. So, this mail it in in 30 days or no warranty doesn't apply.. :) I'd bet a few other states have that as well. |
|
No, I think adding Stg models to the general warranty is a recent development. The warranty is the same one used on the SA58 models and I wouldn't be surpised if the website is newer than 1997.
I just don't think they are going to ammend it given the fact that it probably won't be a issue much longer. But your rifle is covered. |
|
Hey Steyr, howdy all.. new member here.. been lurking for a long while.. guess I just never had anything to add..
do now though.. add one more to your count pls.. can't seem to decide on long or short just yet.. been reading over on the fal_files.. saw mention of the 'extreme' muzzle blast.. gets reduced much with the longer barrel?? have wanted one of these for a long time, but the time wasn't right - til now.. seen the article on the SA58 in this month's American Rifleman?? I'll have extra mags and ammo waiting.. btw - thanks also for the Shot Show pics.. roger bushy, slr95, stg58 (soon) |

And that actually gives us 10. Like I said I'm not gonna start collection procedures until the 14th of March so people have time to get their funds in order.
And this leaves the opportunity for anyone else who wants one to get in between now and then. Anyone else want in, just say so. |

Quoted: OK, I tried to negotiate a special rate with the owner that would let me do these REAL cheap. But it seems not only was he unable to offer volume discounts, I learned that they will soon be out of Stg58 versions and will be raising costs of the SA58 versions. Well I hate to see anyone miss out. Personal interest aside, I think these are the best deal on a .308 today. God that sounds like a car sales man. Anyway, I will do this if it flys. Stg58 Rifles $900 + $35.00 (s/h/ins) Stg58 Carbines $950.00 + $35.00 (s/h/ins) Options: Type I or II receiver. With or without carry handle cut (If you want no carry handle cut you can only get the Type I). Come standard with hard case, manual, 20 round mag and lifetime warranty. I did some checking around today - 3 different shops in my area. One looked at me like I was crazy, and was stupid enough to say that they were no longer available due to "War demands"! I almost pissed myself on that one. Both other shops (one was a stocking DSA dealer) quoted me $1095 + shipping, if they could even get one.
Maybe we should move this along and get them before they're gone??? Maybe Steyr has better info - he definately has the better price! I'm liquid too, and I'm ready to go on this. |
|
Just got off the phone with DSA. We are in good shape. DSA has been telling all dealers that they are phasing out the Stg58s but we are gonna be ok for a group buy in the next month.

I've got everything but a preban lower reciever. All the accessories from tinkering with the AR over the years. Realized all I need is a lower and I've got a complete preban 20" A3 with all the essential trinkets.
Plus, I REALLY need to build a deck and pave a driveway this summer. The wife doesn't see the rough decision I just had to make. To her the FAL does NOT equal a driveway...to me, well, I'd have to really really think about it. I mean realllllly think about it.[booze] I just took 2 shots of rasberry vodka...very...tart. |

Put me down for a Type 1, no carry handle. The check will be in the mail in the AM. Same address as the 9 MM group buy? BTW, I can only get the 10 round mags due to PRNJ law. Let me know if that`s a problem. Bob |
