I am wondering why Texas DPS went with dual 240s instead of 134s, although I can think of a few reasons.

There are places that the Border Patrol don't go at night unless they just absolutely have to.

Old mines Road is one of them. They put remote cameras out there and haul ass.

Also look at the other side of the border. There literally not a day were there is 4-10 deaths by the cartels in major cities a long the border.

I would say it was maintenance, or logistics perhaps.

Dual 240s fire about what? 1500 RPM? So 1k rounds makes for a decent ammo supply for each gun (45s).
The 134s need about 4500 rounds each for the same firing time.

They're a lot heavier too, and they need power.

Why does the US Army have airplanes?

A few. Sometimes the Mexican Military gets involved with the drug runners. There have been a few times where Mexican military helicopters have drifted into US neighborhoods around Mission
This was the shootout that prompted the boats.

Actually, 650-850 or 950 cyclic rate. Power on a boat isn't a huge deal, but the 240 can be "grab and go" for dismounts. I place logistics under maintenance (training, ammo, spares, vendor service, etc.), which also includes local armorer presence for services.

Didn't they shoot up Laredo City hall a few years back? Or was it El Paso? I just remember a building catching a few bullets from across the border.

I had to sit on 83 last year because DPS and BP closed it down do to a shootout near the Gates and Galvan ranches.

And Humvees,Wrangler Rubicons, Ford Raptors, 4wheelers, and horses..

they get neat toys, but they have their hands tied. That is why the DPS is trying to free up cash to secure the border without them.
During their test run, it cost 1 million a week IIRC. And the Locals were pissed. The local government leaders asked them to stop because the illegals were afraid to go to work or take their kids to school.

Where have you been these past years? The National Guard and even AD military have had a strong presence on the Southern Border, in various states. Texas determined they needed to arm their officers with weapons equal or greater than the threats they face daily. I don't understand why you have a problem with that. The people they deal with are armed with some serious weaponry. It's a nasty situation down there....made worse by Federal kowtowing, apathy, and outright refusal to face facts.
