Proposed NYS Senate Bill that:

"Regulates the sale of ammunition; requires imprinting of a serial number on each bullet jacket and bullet lead; requires sellers of ammunition to maintain records of all sales."

It also makes it illegal to: "SELL MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED BULLETS WITHIN ANY  NINETY  DAY  PERIOD"

I'm curious of a couple of things:

1.  What keeps the serial number from getting rubbed off or mutilated from the rifling during firing?

2.  How will you read the serial number from a deformed or fragmented bullet once it is retrieved?

3.  What will this do to bullet accuracy and stability?

4.  100 bullets in a 90 day period?  What are the competitive shooters suppossed to do?

I don't expect any answers to these questions as it is obvious to me that the simpleton's in the NY legislature are not very bright folks or they wouldn't have introduced such an asinine bill in the first place.

Whatever will they think of next.  I guess the NYer's are just trying to stay a step ahead of the Californian's and their microchip idea!

drjakeb, don't be too quick in underestimating the intelligence of NY's left leaning politicians. Seems to me that if this bill becomes law, it will amount to a defacto ban on all future ammo sales in the state.
Think about it... do you really think that Winchester, Remington, Speer, etc. are going to make special lots of ammo that conform to these stupid, unrealistic, and unconstitutional regulations?
I think not!  It would not be cost effective.
Never underestimate your enemy. NY Democrats are devious Socialists, but they are not stupid!

Oh, I almost forgot. All NY members should contact their State Senators ASAP, and maybe we can squash this bill before it ever sees a vote!
God, I need to move out of this state! [pissed]

Is this for real? Or is this another one of those "Hey, SB203 wan't to charge 5 cents on every email....."

If it's for real, it just proves that anti-gunners don't know shit from crap. Serialize bullets, gimmie a break.

I agree, what about reloaders and match shooters? Hmm, I shoot 176 rounds just for a 2 day weekend match, and that's not counting fun shoots and practice or friends bumming ammo. Not to mention that's PER GUN!!!

It gets better! I heard you'll have to fill out a transfer form on each bullet you buy and bullets will not be sold in box's of 50 or 25 anymore they will be single rounds in small zip lock bags with the serial numbers matching on bag, case and bullet.Your best bet will be to buy bulk ammo from the guy in the alley. He is selling 5 round bags for only $125.00 each.Sorry, but I have to joke about everything that is my way. If I don't it will get to me and then it will be a very bad thing.....

100 rounds in 90 days?   That means you can only kill a  little less than 1 person per day!  Hmm, that IS more than I kill now...

How about factory sealed, single shot rifles only?

You fire the gun once, it is then returned to  the dealer and recycled back at the factory.  Only the factory can disassemble the weapon and reload it.

Yeah, that's the ticket.  NOT.

For areas where they believe there is a lot of ammo around they will have Ammo buy back programs. You will get a coupon for a free taco at taco bell for every round you turn in.
WoooooHooooo! Free Tacos for life!

What ammo manufacturer would even bother to comply with this legislation?  You wouldn't have to bother buying 100 in a 90 day period because there isn't going to be any on the shelves to buy.

I am sick and tired of this fucking state.

Pataki is going to lose the next election if I have anything to say. He just cost me another $50 for this ballistic fingerprinting crock of shit.....

Hillary and Schummer, well we all know about those two. They are trying to buy off the Northeast with a "Roof Top" highway or something.

Can we tell NYC to go to hell and the rest of us live in peace. I would think Vermont could use some additional realestate......

Most respectfully,

Dan Tucker

I live in NY for 35 years. Every year I see more and more s it. I have said it before this state is against you. They want to take you tax dollars and make you a slave to the state. It just shows you that if they can propose this they are not afraid of the back lash. Why? Because there is not enough of one for them to be afraid. The people are grand A idiots here. One right after the next.

What about lead/steel shot? I propose that all shot be serialized, registered and recorded. I am also in favor of a limit of 100 shot pellets per 90 day period.

The sad part is the taxpayers are footing the bill for the administrative costs for this wacky legislation.
Link Posted: 4/18/2001 5:23:05 AM EDT

Lead shot will have 1 nuber each on it..... it's the responsibility of the person who finds spent lead shot to put them back in the right order to read the serial #. And to be able to explain in court how they know that is the right order.

Why don't they just make it against the law to commit crimes with guns, threaten people with guns, and use guns recklessly or negligently.

AND THEN PROSECUTE THOSE CRIMES!

or,

Maybe the should require all criminals to have a list of the felonies they've been convicted of tattoed on them starting on thier forehread.
