DOD IDENTIFIES ARMY SOLDIER KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN

The Department of Defense identified today the Army soldier
killed in action in Afghanistan yesterday, Dec. 20, 2002.  Sgt.
Steven Checo, 22, of New York City, a member of the 504th
Infantry, Fort Bragg, N.C., was killed when his unit came under
attack from hostile forces.

"Sergeant Checo's death is a reminder to us of the sacrifices
being made everyday by the dedicated men and women of our armed
forces," said Assistant Secretary of Defense Victoria Clarke.
"His death, as well as his dedicated service, strengthens our
resolve in pursuit of terrorists, terrorist networks and those
who harbor and support them," she said.

Farewell, Brother.....

THE LORD IS MY SHEPARD, I SHALL NOT WANT,
HE MAKES ME LIE DOWN IN GREEN PATURES,
HE LEADS ME BESIDE STILL WATERS,
HE RESTORES MY SOUL,
HE GUIDES ME IN THE PATHS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR HIS NAME'S SAKE.
EVEN THOUGH I WALK THROUGH THE VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH,
I WILL FEAR NO EVIL, FOR YOU ARE WITH ME,
YOUR ROD AND YOUR STAFF THEY COMFORT ME,
YOU PREPARE A TABLE BEFORE ME IN THE PRESENCE OF MY ENEMIES.
YOU ANNOIT MY HEAD WITH OIL;Y CUP OVERFLOWS.
SURELY GOODNESS AND LOVE WILL FOLLOW ME,
ALL THE DAYS OF MY LIFE,
AND I WILL DWELL IN THE HOUSE OF THE LORD FOREVER.
AMEN

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

[red]Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.[/red]

I think this is a beutiful poem, and I think that the last bit is espescially relevant here.

Yes John Mc Crae.....he was from my town..

Its too bad our current government has not learned from it and leaves it to your brave troops to carry on the torch.

My heart goes out to his family.
