The problem here is that our idiot president keeps publicly interjecting the U.S. into these situations. So now instead of hashing some deal out privately with Putin we just look limp dicked to the entire world. Putin is fine with this as a marginalized America is good for Russia.

A U.S. that looks weaker and weaker in the eyes of the world and a Russia that is increasingly aggressive is something we should all be worried about. Like it or not things that happen in Europe and Asia have a very tangible effect on the U.S.

Now that would be self inflicted.

Russia is not nearly as evil as everyone thinks or wants us to think IMO.

It tells them that they can take over Poland, Hungary, Romania and the Baltics and we'll just wag a finger at them.

Russia would be stomped if they tried to invade those countries.

If Putin takes all of the Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia will be shitting bricks.  They're traditional buffer states for paranoid Mother Russia.

I wonder if we're going to draw the line at Poland, I'm willing to bet they'd be receptive to a whole lot of American Army bases on their eastern border about now...

I wont argue with you about Iraq, but you should be required to stare at the photo below while saying Afghanistan was an ill thought adventure.

Ukraine and Georgia both sent troops to Iraq and Afghanistan, not because of any actual interests but because the US asked them to.

Why should anyone help the next time America goes on an ill-thought adventure if they've proven to be such a buddy fucker?

The attempted occupation and dismal failure of nation building has been an ill-thought adventure. There was never an actual plan to defeat the insurgency. To that end,the long war was lost when the US decided the guy on the left was an ally and that the guy on the right was a capable and trustworthy leader

The 2 most basic premises of why the war was unwinnable are right there: refusal to admit that the Taliban are a Pakistani creation and trying to build a functioning Afghan government with an untrustworthy crook at the top. It is just as impossible today to kill enough Taliban/ACM to actually win given those circumstances as it was 12 years ago. It sucks that it was true and it was a noble effort but the conclusion to the fate of Afghanistan was decided long ago.

I expect the stock market to be in a full panic mode tomorrow. (Actually this might be a good buying opportunity since the underlying economy hasn't changed.)

No one in the US would care about Russian troops in Ukraine if the TV stopped playing stories about it. Unless Obama/Kerry do something stupid, nothing changes

Afghanistan was a grinding death machine of a war according to the media until Obama came into office. Now you almost never hear about it.
The Russians taking over Georgia seemed to be about a week of coverage. Then nada.
Libya was a huge deal that had the media trying to paint Obama as a hawk about, until Bengazi. Guess everything is fine there.
Ditto for the brinksmanship in Egypt and Syria. When the public opinion polls started to look unfavorable and McCain started running his "war war war" yap, it all just vanished.

This will be no different.
