Here's the deal:
The wife got me a SCHWEET M1 Garand (Danish, and reworked) for an early Christmas present. I LOVE this thing. She gave it to me tonight, and I'm in absolute love with it. She told me that she knew I wanted one, but also told me the shop where she got it, and that I could exchange it if I wanted to.
I've always wanted a Garand, but this shop has a sweet M1 Carbine that I've had my eye on for a while. And, I've been planning on going the CMP route to get a Garand, and was going to purchase two to rework myself (as much as I can, one for me and one for my Dad.)
Now, I know that I'll probably get called everything from an idiot to a blasphemer for wanting to trade a really nice M1 Garand for a really nice M1 Carbine, but what do y'all think? She told me that she basically is treating this situation like I have a gift cert. for X dollars to the gunshop. Since I was going to get a Garand anyway from the CMP the first part of the year, what are y'alls honest, and REAL opinions on the matter? Thanks for the help, as I'm tearing myself up trying to decide.
(I'll bet that some people will say, "Keep the Garand, and buy the Carbine, just don't tell her!)
