same reason you see movie trailers before the movie comes out!  It is to get your intrest in the product, so when they do get them in, people will want them sooner, so they can keep less excess inventory.

Keep in mind as well that a-lot of importers make delivery promises that they can't keep, for production, customs, manufacturing problems, etc.

We once had these Sharp video projectors we had a demo model of. We showed it to our customers, and the orders poured in.  They were supposed to hit our docks by a certain date.  Had problems with customs, took an extra 4 months from the time they said we'd have them.  We had a lot of pissed off customers that we had committed to.

SOG has got to be the worst company as far as advertising products they don't have. It seems that everytime I call for something they're out.
Some guns I've called about every week for several months and they never have it.
