I interested in volunteering for this and couldn't find anything using the search function on this site. I asked a volunteer cop about this and she said that in my area the SO runs it and you have to go through an academy for this.I can see the need for training but an academy? That seems a bit much. I'm not interested in being a cop or a "want to be cop"or doing any kind of traffic control or publicly wearing any type of uniform (not that it's bad but it just aint me) but if I could help out on a search team that might make a difference I think that would be rewarding. Do any of you guys do it? What is really involved? Do you find it rewarding? Thanks. Andy

I have 10+ years on a Search and Rescue team, 3 years were in California. I was in San Bernardino Co. and they had different levels, and You had to become NASAR certified..(No big deal) Most SAR is under the juristiction of the local Sheriffs Office so what they say the rules are for Vol. Forces are going to be the rules...They did have a Reserve dep level in my area and It was pretty cool, I would love to have the Team I had in Calif. and the Equipment I have have now...That would be one Kick Butt team...
