Good for you!

The problem with America today is ________.(insert problem here, someone will take care of it for you.)

I have two fireplaces, neither of which have been used in 5 years.  I would be a little pissed off if a chimney janitor (no offense) guild or union pushed a law requiring me to have my chimneys swept every year.  That would just be another wad of cash yanked out of my pocket, at a time when I am desperate enough to scour parking lots for dropped change when I go shopping.

[tinfoilhat]Well what no one is talking about is the government conspiracy with the secret global chimney sweep cabal to hide from us the fact that nothing but nothing cleans out a chimney like a flue-fire[/tinfoilhat]

Somehow I don't think capitalism is one of the worst things happening these days in this country.  However, another licensing scheme is!  How many chimney fires are there each year?

hey Sweep,

Do those Chimney sweep logs work?  I cant remember the name of the brand, they look like a fake log...maybe called Creosote cleaner or something.

Laws that force individuals to pay for services that they may not (or do not) need are not part of capitalism.

I'm not speaking for sweep, but do you think that putting STP injector cleaners in your tank really cleans your injectors?

Same goes for logs that claim  the same,If there are no breaks in the concrete seams in the duct that vents your fire(chimney) and all is good (how do you know with out a camera up the system)
Its your house(biggest investment)and your life at risk!

If the chimney is good then you can rattle chains down it,or sweep brushes and clean the creosote and other build ups out!

When clean, then burn your first fire hot to flame out any remaining crusts out of the fireplace!

If you have no concept of a fireplace, then pay someone to do so!

Use seasoned wood mixed with some not so seasoned(green) wood!   The problem is green wood is full of juice(creosote, sap) that causes the bad things that will need you to have your chimney cleaned every season.

Just burn seasoned wood and the problem goes away!

LMAO! It's this type of ignorance that provides these guys with their logic to have such a law. Truth is, that a flue fire will at the very least cost you a few thousand in repairs, and at worst damage to the home itself and/or loss of life...although rare.

Sorry but I do it my self.

I don't hire a gun smith to clean my guns, why should I hire a sweep.

IIRC, wasn't prohibition pushed through by a very politically active minority that knew how to get the politicians' attention?  I can sse this appear at the state level.

In Arizona we got almost the OPPOSITE oppressive laws - "no burn days".

Seems that since the Phoenix Metro area is surrounded by moutains ( we live in "the valley"), in the winter we experience a temperature inversion where warm air can't rise because cold air creates a "lid" over the valley. Thus, smoke/smog/pollution gets real thick in the winter here.

The Solution: People aren't allowed to burn their fireplaces on most of the coldest days of the year.

Of course no one KNOWS when those days will be -  so you have to listen to local news or read the newspaper to see if you can burn your fireplace today.

And they actually have fireplace "patrols" that drive around the city (in pollution-emitting cars) to look at the chimneys and write up citations to people using their fireplaces when they're not supposed to.

When I used to have a fireplace, I'd actually go out of my way to make sure that I WOULD burn a good long fire on the "no burn" days.

Civil disobedience. Never got caught though. (but I tried)

I would just hire the sweep. Its worth it, because he knows exactly what type of problems to look for. Pay a little now, or a LOT later.
I know how to clean a gun, but a chimney is a whole different animal.

The worst thing we could have is another stupid socialist law! Whatever happened to the responsibility to do what common sense dictates!
Kind of like the ban on lawn darts, etc.

I think the STP fuel injector cleaner (black bottle) works very well, thankyou. I have used a bottle with every oil change for the past 60,000 miles on my 1985 crown vic, and I have never had to have the injectors cleaned. This is the only snake oil on the auto shelf that I think actually works!

"fireplace patrols?"  So Sheriff Joe of beautiful Maricopa Co. has a Chimney Posse running around over there?

....now if we could incorporate the "chimney posse" into the border patrol - we'd solve TWO problems - cut down on illegal immigration and leave ordinary citizens the hell alone....
