I too thought they must have been wringing the car out...
I have no fucking idea how you manage to do that to a car at 40-45mph, even if you did take a 15mph curve at that speed. If they were in a 45mph zone... wtf happened? Aliens? |

Oh lawd. Here come the conspiracy theorists. Saw a YT video earlier of a couple grungy looking hipsters talking about how the "Illuminati" gave notice of this accident a few weeks ago in a Family Guy episode. They also showed a clip of what they claim to be foreshadowing of the Boston marathon bombing, on an episode of American Dad that aired before the bombing.

I just saw on TMZ that they were doing 45mph, the tree was actually doing 65mph, so a total impact mph of +/- 110mph. Nearby surveillance photos show them street racing the tree before ultimately peaking out at 45mph(rev limiter) and losing the race. According to TMZ, a CGT is designed to break away in high impact crashes(30+mph) and launch random parts 50+ feet away, so the story makes sense.

Have they said anything about the gas meter or pipes that were near the tree/pole and visible in some of the crash site photos once the car was removed? Could it be possible they hit a utility line of sorts? It seems like the cops would have said so if it was the case.

I'd equate the Carrera GT's reputation to the old 917 or the early 911 Turbos. The 917 was a hairy-chested man car that involved brass balls to drive quickly, and if I remember correctly killed a driver in the 1969 Le Mans in the first lap. The Carrera GT is a lightweight, very powerful car with a monster V-10 that can easily overpower the rear tires, and I looking at Rodas' career from what I see, he's mostly been in sportscar based racers (Porsche Cup, Pirelli World Challenge) which I'd go on a limb to say handle nothing like a CGT would. While they did apparently co-own the car and probably had plenty of wheel time on it, I would have to say as a passenger I'd only feel remotely safe with someone wringing a CGT out on the streets like Walter Rörhl, Derek Bell, The Stig (pretty much any of the 3), or someone with LeMans prototype level experience. I have a sneaky feeling that CGT was going well above triple digits, and that the driver mashed too deep into the brakes. Even with ABS, a car like that could still lock up and plow off the intended path, even with big sticky tires. Huh. 1000 mph !!! |

I've waited upon hearing and reading everything I could about this before commenting. I watched the last 3 FnF movies
and was extremely entertained. I love cars and stunts with ass kicking scenes. The first few were pretty cheesy plots but that charger stole the show anyway. The plots and acting not to mention the incredible stunts in the last 3 are leaps and bounds better than the prior three. It sucks to have lost two guys that share a lifelong hobby as mine, and for something overlooked and not thought upon in their haste. It's an incredible loss that they didn't deserve. Them widow maker Porches are light on the front end and when you get going the lift will leave you with zero tolerance for error. |

Early low production carbon monocoques drove home from DOT crash tests. But they are also meant to break apart in a catastrophic crash.
