need to get a scope that i'll be able to see a 223 hole at 300yds. toss up between a kowa or nikon. which one is better? is there a better one out there? any input would be great

Depends on the model. I have a Nikon with an 80mm objective that probably would fill the bill. All things being equal, try to get the biggest possible objective lens, as that controls light gathering ability.

swarovski. too damn much. would like to stay under $1000. the kowa i'm looking at is an 88mm lens. 822 model

If you are going to spend $1K, for a few bucks more you can get the best optic on the planet. Really, they are so good it will be worth it. The Swarovski 20-60x65 can be had for $1,199 from Cabela's. There are probably cheaper sources. You can get the big 20-60x80 for between $1K and $1,400 at [url]www.hotbuyselectronics.com[/url].

Hey, how about a cheap ass spotting scope for range duty(under $150)? Preferably variable.
