Speed is great, trucking right along at 6:32EST.
HOWEVER. Why am I getting logged out every time I change board pages or post a reply? Its really weird. I signed on while I was on the Board List page, and it signed me on gave. Clicked on General Board-and when the page changed I wasn't signed on anymore. Re signed on. Looked over the GD and GFD forums then switched to AR15 Forums board-and got signed off! Then it did it again when I went back to the General Board from the AR15 forums board. Then when I posted my new thread on the Subaru WRX, it signed me off when I hit submit-though the post did go through. What is up with this strange behavior? |
1542 hrs pacific, site is slower than usual for me. Using a dialup...
Out FREAKING STANDING!
It's better now than it has been in the last 3-4 months! I waited awhile to answer because i wanted to see if it lasted. mike |
I had a hard time logging in from the front page just now.
Then I clicked on general discussion (without being logged in)...and it logged me in !!?? |
The lag seem to go in spurts and seems to be mostly in the GD forum. While I was waiting for the GD forum to load I was able to open up another browser and load the General Firearms Discussion immediately.
I can't upload images now.
I have a new animated gif. It's of osama as a turd jumping out of the toilet, while a reticle has him in their sites and shoots him. Is there some work being done on the memeber photo area ? |
I for one appreciate all your work in maintaining this site, HOWEVER, it appears SLOWER than before for me. I'm on DSL and there is a lot of lag time between pages - more so than before. And I am constantly having to login, over and over and over, between page changes.
Perhaps the initial members who found it faster did so because they were some of the first to log on and the bandwith was available. In any case, I'm glad your back up! |
DSL user here. Sporadically speedy, sporadically slow. Getting into threads seems to be slow, but page to page within one is faster than it has been in a while. Or maybe I shouldn't have had all that cough syrup ....

Goatboy-
Can't get these two pages to load properly: http://www.ar15.com/content/index.html?sec=membership http://www.ar15.com/content/index.html?sec=advertise |
I have to re login after each post. and when I write a post, I cant add text in the middle of a sentence it overwrites the other text.
example: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz abcdefghijktestpqrstuvwxyz -added the word test after k, it overwrites the old letters instead of moving them over to the right. |

Site feels faster to me - large pages are coming up in less time. Sorry, no hard data. It just feels good.
When you get a chance, can you satisfy us geeks and give us a peek at the hardware that is ar15.com? Or at least a rundown of your major components? JScott |

a quick observations before I head off to bed...
site is quicker to respond, but slower to load. I see this with regular pages and when selecting the Icon Legends and Spell check buttons. Sometimes they don't load. I've got cable and everything else is doing fine. |
... Goatboy,
I haven't had the chance to spend too much time on the boards since yhe upgrade but for me the site is ROCKING FAST! ... I'm not going to have much time to participate with all the fun here for awhile as for I just found my high school sweetheart after 25 years and we immediately fell madly and passionately in love again. Too bizarre but awful damned FUN! ... Thanks for the upgrades! |
O yah, forgot to mention, the site speed is farkin screaming on this end!!! Sweet!!!
-T. Edited to say: Thanks GB!![beer] |
The reason it is overwriting your text instead of moving it to the right is b/c you hit the insert key. Hit it again and it should stop doing that. If that doesn't work then it's a board problem. For all you guys that keep getting logged out do you have Auto login turned on? I've had none of the above problems, must be Windows XP :), except for the insert key thing every once in a while, that's just human error.
It's 12:00 exactly on 11/19/02 and the site is still blazing! |
The speed varies. Sometimes it's okay; sometimes it's slow.
The login is not working properly. Sometimes it won't even log me in. Sometimes it logs me out before I can hit the reply button on a thread. Sometimes it works fine. BTW, the auto-login thing doesn't work for me, either. And yes, I've gone to my profile, selected No, submitted, then gone back and selected Yes, and submitted. It didn't help. Cookies are enabled so that's not the problem. |

Ok to respond to a few items:
1 - The text overwriting issue is your INSERT key as Elad mentioned above. 2 - Every web server in the cluster is now at or under 20% utilization, the backend servers are at roughly 30% util (dual proc machines, with high ram, so they wont move up in util as quickly) 3 - The slow down's at this point are entirely BW related. Seeing as how the pages are pretty compact, the only way to cut BW usage is to limit the pic sizes for the signitures and/or to move them offsite to a different line. The second is the likely scenario as all the picture hosting will take place on a dedicated line. 4 - The content sections are being worked on. It's an issue I knew would come up. 5 - Checking into the logging in and out issues now and will hopefully resolve them. (That's priority one!) Hmmm anything I miss??? I also think that there was some ISP lag last night as their routers were spiking into the 200-300 range and will slow down traffic in and out of the site. So while the site was slow (lines were packed!) so was the ISP which added to it! Hopefully it wont happen tonight and it looks good today! (They avoided a phone call from me! [=)]) Keep me posted, I have some upgrades to go in shortly! |
Speed is great again today GB but the doorman is acting up again also.
Loged in from the Board List page, and got loged out when I switched to the General board. Tried to relog in from the general board, and the first time it didn't respond. I typed in my screen name and password, clicked on the log in button with my mouse. It seemed to take it, the opening page note appeared at the bottom of my screen, and the counter bar. But when the counter bar reached the end, it didn't log me in. No error message, just erased my name and password from the windows and went back like I had never typed in anything at all. Tried it again, went through without any trouble. |
I'm not getting logged out, but the "new" messages are behaving very screwy - I'll read one message on the first page of the forum, return to the forum and anything posted before that message is no longer marked new. Makes it difficult to tell where I left off from the last browsing session.

Ok I have a number of fixes to push up, but I will need to take the site down for a bit. I'll do it soon if that's preferred, otherwise I can do it late tonight.
Anyone? I also fixed a few minor things like the content problems. [=P] Let me know when you guys want the login/logout issue fixed! |
Bump for the fixes...
This should take care of most/all of the issues from this list and a few other minor things. PLEASE let me know in this post if something's still f@#$%ed up or out of whack!!! |
One issue with an error was fixed... (Happened to be a typical goatboy "oops" in the database... damn I need to take better notes. [;)]

GB, I'm in a rush so I'm sorry if somebody else said this but I have to log back in every five mins.
Could it be due to what you are doing or is this new? |

View Quote Just take it down and do what you gotta do when you want to do it, some may not like it (Including myself) but I can live with it. Cookies are on, got bumped off after about 2 minutes. This has been going on for a few days. It happens when I leave "My Active Topics" or when I leave "Team Room".
To hell with everything else.
I need my search function back. |
Now I log out and close the browser, and when I come back, and open the browser, I'm still logged in. Cool!
Yeah autologin enabled will keep you on forever without issue (well supposed to anyhow) and regular logins will be kept from logging out for 45 minutes. (Sessions still expire in 15 minutes, but a special GUID lets the site log you in automatically behind the scenes.)
I guess things are working ok since I haven't seen anyone bitching in a bit. [;)] |
Log in is working fine.........
Speed is better than in weeks............... Search button ? Goatboy, thanks |

Auto Login works for me, and the site speed is (for a change) quite good! I'm impressed!
If there's no further issues with login/logout then we'll get the search back online today. [=)]
Hate to burst your bubble, but as of a little earlier this morning, I'm still having problems with the auto-logon. It may just be this machine though, its been acting a little flaky and I haven't had time to look at it.
As for taking the site down to fix stuff, well, you're the admin, take it down when you need to (especially if its to give us search again!) [:D] -FOTBR |
Anything more specific on the actual problem? Since there's not as many with issues, why dont you two email me specifics and I'll work with you to see if we can correct them.
[=)] |
Goatboy, Well, autologin is working for me. I dumped ALL the cookies, logged in, and set the autologin feature to yes again, and all is well. And we've got search back! Today is a good day!
Thanks again, FOTBR |
GB, my auto-login is all out of whack! It sometimes logs me in, sometimes not. I had to click 'reply' to this thread 5 times before it gave me the dialog box. Sometimes it will look like I've logged out, but if I exit the page and then click on it again, I'm logged in. It's very erratic.
I've refreshed my profile page and reset the cookies, if that helps. |
auto login not working. I resubmitted my update for auto login, but I'm still getting logged out every 5 minutes or so.
Autologin is not working here either. I deleted all my cookies from Windows explorer and reset the preference and that worked until I rebooted my machine. I deleted and reset again and with no reboots it is no longer working again.
