Define irony:

Most of my family lives in Croatia. My parents were first generation to come to the US (damn smart people!), but my mom still goes back every so often. We went in there, kicked ass that needed kicking when no one else wanted the job, and helped people who needed helping, and what happened in the case of Croatia?

Therein lies the irony: despite a singular unwillingess of ANYONE to admit voting for him, they use their new freedoms to vote in a COMMUNIST. Their economy is in the shit, they've got no rights, they've got people dying left and right, large chunks of their country are owned by Serbia and the Czechs.....and when you ask them who's fault everything is?

It's fun, trying to explain to someone that the US doesn't want 'Croatia to disappear', because if we did they'd be standing on a parking lot. The combination of lunacy and egotism is amazing.

No Nick, but I do expect the Europeans to do a bit more reading of their modern history and give the United States the credit we are due.  It IS a fact that my country saved the world from Facism, Nazism and Communism.  Not the Brits, not the French, not ANY other nation state on our planet....just US.  This is NOT a patriotic rang either...simply a logical assessment of a historian.  Without the United States, the would have been conquered by the Germans and the Japanese during WW II and thrown into a bottomless abyss of tyranny the likes of which we can only imagine.

Secondly, we are NOT "Hell Bent" on "Destroying" Iraq.  If we were, the answer would be VERY simple:  A single radio message to a single submarine on patrol and that ship would then turn all of Iraq into a radioactive wasteland.  No...our beef is with a KNOWN murdering despot.  A man who we KNOW has a deep and unabiding hatred to the United States.  A man who destabilized the Middle East on at least two occasions before and wishes to do it again...a man who has a proven track record of using weapons of mass destruction, against his enemies and against his own people.  Now...given all these FACTS, don't you think that IF Saddam Hussein ever gets his hands on a WMD, he won't quickly give it to a terrorist organization to deliver it to our shores?  Are you really ready to have a nuclear weapon go off here?  Are you ready to have a terror group sail up and down a major river or the Cheseapeak Bay or Deleware River...or into NY or SF harbors, while blowing our aerosolized anthrax?  Are you ready for them to use sarin or VX on a large business building?  Imagine IF they got a large load of gas into the ventilation system of the Sear building in Chicago...or the Empire State...or into the Capital building or a loaded cruise ship.

The ONLY way to stop a terrorist is to hit him before he can hit you.

Finally, yes...we were loosely alled "with" Saddam during the Iran-Iraq war.  So?  What is your point?  Geopolitical history is full of such situational arrangements.  Politics makes strange bedfellows.

I am sorry to interrupt the Euro-bashing for a little reality, but if you look at the resuts of the elections here a little over a week ago thats only a little higher than the percentage of AMERICANS who think Bush is a worse enemy than Saddam Hussein.

That number includes the new Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.

It would be far more useful to know what the Majority of people in the UK-the OTHER 2/3rds of the population thinks.

Now don't bother with Germany, they already spoke at their elections a couple months ago and they really do hate us. A majority there did vote for the parties of Gerhard Schroders ruling coalition and its openly anti-american platform.
