Today I put my Grayhound Cody to sleep.I miss him already he was a 45 mph couch potato.The wife and I got our hero when he was 5. It was so much fun to watch him run.He was 12&1/2

Don't know what to say, Brother. Losing a pet really is like losing part of the family. My sincerest condolences. Try to focus on how lucky he was to have such a nice family and how lucky you were to have him for while you did.

Sorry to hear that you had to put your dog to sleep.  Even though it's the right thing to do to end the suffering of a four-legged friend, it doesn't make it any easier.  
Just remember the good times with Cody.

Pets do a lot for us.  They can anchor us when times are rough.  Sorry for your loss....those hounds are remarkably appealing as a pet.

I had to put my best buddy to sleep this summer. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever had to do. All I can say is hang in there it will get better. I am just now ready to get another dog, really looking forward to it.

Hang in there. I can only imagine the hurt.

For some reason, it seems like it hurts more when a dog dies then when a person dies sometimes, esp. if that dog views you as its person. (dog owners will know whet I mean) They rely upon you for everything, and their passing can feel like a failure on your part - which of course it isn't.

Grieve a little then go save the life of a shelter dog, or a rescue greyhound. I guarantee it will make you feel better. There are so many out there in need of a good home that it break my heart every time I think about it.

My condolences for your loss, you gave him a good life, he was happy to be a member of your family , you did good.  I know its a hard thing to go through, the best cure is go get a new pup and spoil it  even more.. Thats what I did !!

Sorry to hear about Cody. I've been through it too and it's tough. NoVaGator makes a good point too. Let yourself grieve for a while, but time does heal.....

 Sorry about your loss. I usually have to euthanize several animals every week at work. Everybody handles it differently. Some people are happy to have gotten their time together, and are peaceful about it. It seems worse when people don't expect it. It can be a real heartbreaker.
 For a Greyhound to live that long, you must have been doing something right.

Man these are the only posts that really get me. Sorry man, be glad you had the times. About the only good thing I can come up with.

I lost my best friend (canine type) last year, I fully expect his lil brother to go soon. Zig was 14 1/2 years, Snooze is now 14 3/4. It hurts to even think about having to put him down but since he hasn't been able to walk more than a few feet for at least four months now I can't imagine it is much longer.
I have to carry him outside so he can do his duties but I don't mind, he has given me many many years of faithfulness and I am sure he would do the same for me.

Hang in there and do things to make yourself feel better.  Only you know what those are.  Someday the two of you will be reunited.  And what a day it will be!

i'm so sorry for your loss. rescued greyhounds are among the sweetest animals on earth. and the most grateful.

as time passes, perhaps you and your wife could take a drive up to kanab, utah. there's a shelter there with over 1,500 dogs, many of whom need a loving home just like yours.

Even doing the right thing can be so hard.  Getting another pup helped me.  (I had to put down my old, 14 yrs 2 mos., girl Chow in Sept.)

My family has had five rescued greyhounds, of which two were lost to cancer.  They are great dogs and make great pets.  Very mellow couch potatoes, not what you would imagine at all.  They just love to be with people.

Sorry again, you should be proud to have given the boy such a great home.

well my dalmation is 10 or 11, adn there suposed to live to be about 12 or 13ish...so were lookin at pretty soon...i enjoy every minute i have with that dog.  even when he is roudy and annoying.

I am sorry to hear about your pet, I know what you are going through. I put my pal down 2 years ago and still miss him, now I have 2 dogs but it is not the same, my pal Max was an Akita and he was 17 years old. Please accept my condolences.

I know what you are going through. It's only been about a month since my dog had to be put to sleep and I really miss him alot.

The only creatures who look at us with TOTAL unconditional love & respect and expect nothing in return but love & respect, are our pets, who spend the least amount of time with us. (over the long term)

I had to put "Rusty" down the day my wife flew home to take care of her mother for her breast cancer surgery, christmas eve.

It was a very hard holiday season without pet & wife.

Find a new 4 legged best friend and spoil the shit out of it.

Sorry about your loss.  You will never be able to replace him, but you can honor his memory by rescuing another dog and treating it just as well as you treated him.    The pain does ease I lost my dog of 14 years to cancer 2 months ago in september.

My deepest sympathy. I went through the same thing last January 3, and it still hurts more than I can say when I think about it. My dog took a piece of my heart with her when she left, but that was not against my wishes. I believe that someday in the hereafter she'll walk at my side again.
