Some liberal idiot has e-mailed me about a fund-raiser for Universal (also known as Socialized) Health Care. I am thinking of going to debate everyone, in which case I need to be armed with lots of Facts!

So what hard info/statistics do you have that this doesn't work? If I do this, I need lots of info, not just calling everyone a bunch of Commies.

Possible points - We are the only industrialized nation without Socialized Health Care. But who is doing all of the pioneering medical research and drug development? Might this research be done where you can actually make a profit for it?

How much would taxes have to be raised to fund it?

You might consider also posting your inquiry on FreeRepublic.com. Scads O' Conservative Wonks hang out over there — might even scare up a few volunteers to help you "freep" this event.

There's a future anti-socialized medicine flash piece in all these links somewhere...

Head to the bookstore or library and consult Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" to learn about who is the "Forgotten Man of Socialized Medicine".

Leonard Peikoff is a disciple who has spoken on the topic.

[Sad to see that Mona's "Who Likes Chocolate Brownies?" Has been seen by a larger audience and has recieved greater feedback than this topic.]

Do not forget to look up the reasons for socialized health care. Knowing the arguments for are just as important as know the ones against.
Just like communism in its complete and trueist form, it is a great thing for the people. Everyone gets health care, no one is left out to die because they can't come up with the hundreds of thousands of dollars necessary for say transplant surgery.
The problem is people are greedy bastards. Seriously. It's not that the drug companies and doctors couldn't get by and do this for the good of the people. It is because they have to own fancy cars and houses and make a few mil while they are doing it.
I am all for people getting health care, but I am a realist know it can't work with real people. Looks good on paper, but won't work in real life.
Make sure what you are actually against is public heathcare, and not what it will turn into. You can nit pick that instead more successfully.

Wasn't there a point in time when every American already knew that Socialism sucked? Now we're back to debating? [:(]

Thanks, looks like a good start. I was considering posting this on FreeRepublic too, though I don't usually go there very much (mostly because their board software seems kinda bizarre).

Wasn't it the 60s or so when there was that McCarthy Communist witch hunt? Isn't that around the same time as the Great Society (aka pre-Communist) got started? How fast did commies go from someone to hunt down and blacklist to people with some good ideas? Or were people too dumb to know communist policies when they see them? Hmm...
