I have several questions about your handgun laws:

1) Why weren't pistols banned in 1996?

2.) How does one go about getting a handgun?

3.) Is hollowpoint ammo legal?

Thanks for any answers. We in the USA support you and will help fight gun banishment

Handguns were not used by the Port Arthur killer, so I guess the polititions didn't think of them at the time. Or, they didn't want to look to greedy.

To legally own a pistol you must be a member of a pistol club (targets), attend at least once a month, have a safe to store pistols in and be licensed by the police. No hunting or use of the pistol is allowed anywhere else. That is NSW law but I think other states are similar.

(To get yourself a pistol without going through all that you just need the right money and the right contact in the black market)

there are no restrictions on ammo types

Hope this helps clear any confusion, this looks like it will change soon as jackboot Johnny Howard now say's he wants to ban all handguns.

Better go and stock up while I can.
