Because Jody is referred to in marching & running candences it's also slang for a candence, which are sometimes called "Jody Calls". That use would be used in plural like "sing us some jodys". The point of Jody in cadences is to compare how hard the soldier's life is vs. how easy Jody has it.

I'm pretty sure the former isn't nearly so rampant as the latter.

And infidelity is gender neutral. I know a young couple headed for divorce because anytime the guy is more than fifty miles from the flagpole he's putting it to someone. No question the current day troops are getting the dirty end of the stick though. The opportunities for extra-marital sex have remained relatively constant for wives at home, but the Middle East isn't the sexual DisneyLand for the troops that Southeast Asia was forty or so years ago. Pretty common. The root cause for a lot of the problems is that Joe brings Mary to a huge new place called base housing that is different than the old hometown. Then she gets dropped into the drama express that is military wives. Add to that the alone time and it leads to trouble.
