I can't believe the nerve of this guy. "This president is trying to bring to himself all the power to become an emperor — to create Empire America," he said. And he warned his supporters, "If you go along like sheep that is what will happen." Bah bah... So your telling the sheeple (his supports) that if you go along with bush, you'll be a sheep? WTF? Also the nerve of his supporters, of course this figures, I mean why would they want truths in their little democratic circle jerk. "Inside the crowd was heavily in favor of McDermott's view. When opponents took a microphone to talk, they were shouted at and told to get to their question. Supporters, though, were able to talk uninterrupted and give anti-war speeches. "

Also, could someone help me out on trying to understand what the anti-war people want of this? So they don't want to go to war, but why? What are they trying to avoid? Are they just blindly trying to avoid conflict or do they have a good reason not to? Anyone?

Avoidance of war with Iraq. I will give you specific reasons for avoiding this conflict and no others. Sept 11 support, hazy at best. Saudi is much better target Terrorism support. Definately, but other countries are much more involved. Iran, Saudi, Pakistan No other questions should be asked in the current situation. This "war against terrorism" is what we are fighting now. If you want to fight everyone who is a threat to us, then you are going to look like an emperor or like "daddy's boy" for continuin a fight that should have been finished 10 years ago.

He has been watching too much star wars. Next he will accuse him of being a dark jedi and challenge him to a lightsaber duel.

McDermott should have lunch with a couple "libertarians" who post here. They would get along fine.

McDumbass is just another Socialist Wing Nut whose ideas are as goofy as some of the folks who post here! [whacko] Are you listening? You know who I'm talking about. [;D]

Where is your proof that Saudi supports terrorism? I am not saying they do or don't, just asking for proof. Just because some of the hijackers were Saudi doesn't mean their government was involved. You can't base government involvement on someone's nationality. That's just plain dumb. What proof is there that the Saudi nationals had the backing and support of the Saudi government? Hell, that would mean if an American hijacked a plane and flew it into a building, the US government was behind it. Oh wait, you believe that already, don't you?

I believe there was quite a list of terrorist families in Palestine that received funds from the Saudis and that they fund the strict wahhabi fundamentalist schools you find (amazingly enough) in countries other than the UAR. The wahabbis were the tribe that put the royal family into power...and keeps them there. They're also Osama's boys. It's not that the hijackers were under the direction of the Saudi government. They're just paying them to export their hostility and not kill the royalty.

Gladly(although I can only really speak for myself)
So they don't want to go to war, but why?
View Quote
Because we don't believe the war is justified.
What are they trying to avoid?
View Quote
We want to avoid: - deaths of innocent Iraqi and American lives, both soldier and civilian - an increase in the power of the state(because it ALWAYS increases in war time. Why do conservatives, who are supposedly for small gov't, support something that results in bigger gov't? Doesn't make sense) - blowback from anti-american terrorists because of attack Iraq - more spending because of the war, which could possible lead to tax increases(because Congress will never cut spending)
Are they just blindly trying to avoid conflict or do they have a good reason not to?

The liberals probably are blindly trying to avoid war, because we have a Republican president. Did you hear much crowing when we went to war in Bosnia or Yugoslavia? Not from liberals I didn't. This is the case with McDermott above. He's not making any logical reason for not attacking Iraq, only political reasons. libertarians, on the other hand, have sound logical and principled reasons to oppose war, not only with Iraq, but in most other cases as well(excepting of course pure self defensive wars)

Just be glad that he does not represent you. We here in Seattle area are calling him- "Bagdhad Jim" He has successfully turned himself into an Agent of Iraq, he should be tried for treason. There is no difference between Bagdhad Jim, and Aldrich Ames.
