I'm strongly considering enlisting and was wondering what everyone thought of their MOS. I've already taken the ASVAB and I got a 97 so I believe that will give me options.
Anyways, if you could tell me your MOS, what you liked, and what you didn't like that'd be awesome! Thank you for your service and dedication. |

11 bravo. Blew things up. Lost hearing. They wanted me to stay as cook, said fuc em. Army good.

13F HHC 1st BCT 10th Mountain (LI) TOC bitch here........ join the Air Force.
|
|
18X, you will thank me later
ETA, EOD is great for a post .mil career. I know a guy that makes 300k as a civilian EOD guy. |
|
12 Bravo, blowed crap up and built it back again to only blow it up again. Oh yeah and C4 was cool.
|
|
Scored a 90 on the ASVAB, I chose 11B. I did two deployments in Afghanistan with a Prestigious Light Infantry unit. I loved it.
Now I am a Nasty Girl in a unit that is best known for shooting Hippies at Kent State. |

There are two Armies.
The Infantry and Everyone else. Just remember, there are 212 ways you can support the Infantry. I have enjoyed my time as a medic. Specifically my Line time...no greater honor then patrolling with a platoon of 11B's. if you go the 11B route, prepare your anus and enjoy your time. If you go support route, just remember you are not the center of the Army and you are there to support the Infantry. |

To all medics: Doc, thanks for being their for me when times were tough! |

Pretty good job but I'll bet it has changed since GPS has been invented. |

11C Mortar Maggot....blew up stuff, lost 30% of my hearing in the left ear. You get to do most of the tough, character building cool stuff the Riflemen do, with a little less BS, and dropping more HE downrange. If you get 81mm or 120mm, less walking, too.

I am a Navy vet but I needed to take a dump so here's a bump for your thread.
WAT??? Come at me, Army Bro's! |

11B here. If you like to be cold, hot, wet, exhausted, starving, deaf .... yet want to blow shit up, infantry, son.
|
|
Started out as a 67N (huey crew cheif) now a 15T (blackhawk crewcheif). love aviation but plan on deploying every 3 years.

Why are you joining? That will have a huge impact on what MOS is the best fit for you. If exercise isn't your thing, you probably don't want combat arms, especially not infantry, artillery, or armor. If you like running, infantry might be your game. Like lifting weights, look at armor or artillery... Want a marketable skill, you're probably better off with signal or one of the other support branches. But you don't hear too many cool stories from those guys :-)

I was a Medic, 68W. Loved my line time, hated being in a MEDDAC.
|
|
Started out 11H
Consolidated by Uncle into 11B Secondary of 31B I'd say go with 11B as long as you're young and able to hack it. Regardless, any choice is better than the choice made by 97% of the population that made the choice to limit their personal military experience to Fort Living Room, Camp Moms Basement and whatever version of Call of Duty they're running |

92y supply guy. Went airborne and was stationed at Bragg. A btry 3/4 ADAR. Got to shoot everything the line guys had ( even a stinger ) without all the fuss.
Oh, any pilot that was interrogated flying over Bragg '94-97 time frame. Oops.. my bad |

OP, former USMC here, junior enlisted in any branch is like a big ass four year frat party where the chicks never show up. Somebody, somewhere, said it and I have never heard it summed up any better. Pick something you are remotely interested in, don't settle for anything. If you get an MOS you don't like, you won't be engaged in your work, and you'll go through the motions for four years. You won't be doing yourself or the Army any favors unless you can become committed to your job and buy into it, all false motivation aside. |

Join the Navy. Sounds like a damn vacation all the way to retirement.
|
|
I'll say this. pic an MOS that has some civilian value. Not a lot of 11 bravo jobs in the real world.

97 for me, GT 127. Horribly colorblind. I was 27D, paralegal aka JAG Captain babysitter. Deployed with a battalion, was BN commander's driver in 2003. Second trip was foreign claims NCOIC for northern half of Iraq. There's a broad range of jobs within the MOS, but I mostly hated my last 3 years at division JAG office. So I got out.

I am doing very well but I don't have a passion for it--I don't enjoy school. Something I have always had a passion for is serving. I don't know how to describe it other than that I feel it is something respectable to do. I am in great shape; 180lb at 5' 7" and lean. EDIT for the guy who mentioned what type of activity I enjoy. I love lifting weights. I am a decent runner but definitely very strong for my size/weight. Destroying shit does sound fun, and I for sure would want something active. I do not believe that I would want a support position, however. |

11B if you want the opportunity to kill someone legally. Better then call of duty bro!
|
|
My GT score was 116.
Looking back I would have gone to a different MOS. But what I wanted wasn't open at the time. |
