Michigan: B

law enforcement has discretion
requires minimal safety training
[red]no restrictions on where a licensee may carry [/red]

Bradycampaign sight is wrong about Michigan. We can not carry to sports arena, stadium , any place that sells alcohol, any place that can hold more than 2500 people, at a school unless you are picking up or drooping off your child, cant carry in government buildings, or any place that has a no concealed carry allowed sigh posted, day care center, church mosque synagogue or other temple of worship unless promotion is given by church leader, hospital, dorm or classroom of a college or university, or a casino.

Edited to add: you can carry into a liqueur store, but not a bar lounge or restaurant that sells alcohol. Bingo parlors are out too.

Vermont seems to most liberally favor gun ownership.

No permit needed to CCW (it's legal).  Class III ok.

Seem to remember that it has a RTKBA clause in its Constitution.

Idaho also seems very friendly.  Class III ok.  Shall issue CCW (and the only state that has reciprocity with ANY other CCW state; i.e. get one for WA and it's good in ID too!)  Most people here hunt or own firearms.  Probably very similiar to AZ.

This really pisses me off..

Handgun Control, chaired by Sarah Brady, was founded in 1974 by Dr. Mark Borinsky and N.T. "Pete" Shields, two victims of gun violence. Based in Washington, D.C., HCI works with law enforcement, public health, religious, and community groups across the country to strengthen and protect federal, state and local gun control laws, but does not seek to ban all guns. [red]HCI has more than 400,000 members nationwide, making it the nationÍs largest citizensÍ gun control lobbying organization.[/red] More information about HCI and its sister organization, the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence, can be found on our website at www.handguncontrol.org.

Only 400,000 members and the NRA, GOA and many other pro-gun org's has to fight these idiots.  I really don't get it.  The NRA alone has what 4 million members how can 400,000 even get in our way?

Sorry for Hijacking your thread

Edited to make some red stuff

Vermont. You can carry concealed or openly without a permit, and you can have class III. They honor homosexual weddings though.

I'm from Texas and our gun laws (or lack of) are better than most but I must agree with Winston_Wolf. Alaska should come just after Vermont.

Vermont is the only state that trust its adults to corry concealed without a permit.

Michigan and California are the two worst that I lived in.

It's called "freedom."

The homos don't hurt you when they do what they do, so why make an issue of it?  (This doesn't take into account politically correct "education" but that's a different story, and another thread.)

ahhh,Alaska. The Wally World and K Marts still do sell handguns, and it is a pretty gun friendly state. But almost everyone tries to get damn near retail for their stuff though. Anchorage, home of the $650-$700 Glock.
FWIW, my home state of Oklahoma has always been pretty gun friendly. Plus it rarely hits
-20 in the winter.

It may not be as friendly as Vermont, but Indiana can't be too far down the list.  CCW permits are cheap and easy, there are few restricted places, and they will even issue CCW to an 18 year old (although, that may not be a good thing in some cases).

Hey, Michigan has gotten better - went to shall issue for CCWs about a year ago, and have some reciprocity with other states' CCWs.  Anyone know about Class III here?  I know that silencers are verboten.

Hey they are wrong about Colorado too. It says that we dont have to have training. Bullshit. I just got all my CCW stuff in the mail. Also does anyone know the current laws because it the packet that I got it sounded like you could open carry with out a permit.

Michigan is C&R only (WWII Stens, Reisings, AR18s, S&W 76s, etc.).

Virginia is actually decent.  I needed a basic safety class in order to get a permit, but no fingerprints or anything else (that depends on county).  The only places off-limits are churches, govment buildings, schools, and places that serve alcohol.  Just up until two weeks ago State parks were on that list, but we just won back that little freedom.  The BIG issue for me as a CCW in VA is the places that serve alcohol, because that includes just about every restaurant.  I guess The Man feels we should be defenseless victims when dining out.

But in VA open carry is perfectly legal without permit, so that's cool.

Is there any truth to this......someone told me illinois was one of the top 5 most strict states for guns laws, but was ironically one of the top 5 states for gun ownership...??? just wondering if this was accurate.

Damn, HCI only gave PA an "F"

Come on Pennsylvaniana, we must try harder!

Next time let's go for an "F-"

Can't hunt here with a semi-auto, can carry anywhere except a courthouse with a CCW, shall issue, class 3 friendly. I'd rank it in the Top 5, and number 2 east of the Mississippi behind Vermont.

I can't believe no one has said Alabama yet. The great state of Alabama is very gun friendly!

I don't think we beat Vermont but we sure have better laws than Texas, Arizona etc.

It's called:  Chicago screws over a rural state.

The vast majority or Illinois counties are far and away pro-gun.  Unfortunately Chicago is so populous that it screws us over in the state-house.  Not only population matters, but corruption stings too.

Don't forget Kentucky, we too are gun friendly! We are a shall issue CCW state $ 60 for 3 years. Also Class 3 state. Also there is state premption , meaning that no city or town can enact stricter gun laws.
You can have a loaded handgun in your glove compartment ...without a permit. Some here also have their rifles on gun racks in their pickups.
Also...safe and sane fireworks are allowed, cigarettes are $24 for a carton of Marlboros or $ 10 to 15 for generics. You can buy a farmhouse with 20 acres of land for under 95K.
