ANCHORAGE, Alaska -

Police tapes released Thursday detail a critically wounded woman's harrowing 48-minute wait for help as confused officers wandered nearby streets and dispatchers disregarded the address she gave them, relying instead on inadequate computer information.

Go read the whole thing, and tell me if it doesn't REALLY piss you off!

It's not quite that simple, though your point is valid.

It appears that the assailant used the victim's own .44 Magnum, killing him instantly, then shot his wife four times.  Then while the assailant reloaded, his wife crawled to a phone and called 911.  The assailant, after reloading, shot the victim twice more to make sure he was dead, then shot herself under the chin.

Don't go crowing to the anti's about this one.  They'll throw "safe storage" back in your face.

Unfortunately, old news.

Anybody who's followed the "police will protect me" BS knows that the PD have no legal obligation to actively protect the citizenry - only an obligation to investigate, and present suspects for arraignment and provide evidence for prosecution. This is based on a US supreme court case out of NY, I think, several years ago, where a woman w/ a protection order (and on a waiting list for a handgun[;)] called NYPD when the bad guy called her up and told her he was coming to kill her. NYPD dispatch said "call us when he's there". She did, they responded, and by the time they got there it was a homicide investigation instead of a home intrusion. Next of kin sued and lost after numerous appeals.
