I know this is very hypothetical.  I remember a number of yanks joined up with the RAF to get an early crack at the Nazis.  Mercenaries have been around forever, as have big game hunters.  Just suppose for a minute that  someone has put together a Safari package where you go to Kurdistan and get to spend a few guided days on the front lines, no bag limit on uniformed Iraqi army personnel and no game wardens anyway.  Would you consider ponying up the $6,000 and going?  If so, would it be out of a sense of patriotism or a macabre curiosity about hunting the ultimate game animal?  What gear would you take and why?  What caliber and why?  I think I would be pretty tempted, actually, to take my precision rifle and go.  Would I really really have the stones to pick up the phone and give them my credit card #?  Wish I could answer that...

Make fun of an anti-gunner;  they HATE that...

Yes. I'd take something long range: m82a1, cheyenne tactical or dsr-1 .338. Also a galil sar (if I could get one) or an m4 for the immediate threats. Iraqi kurdistan is crawling with Al-Qaida types at the moment so it wouldn't just be Saddam's boys we'd have to be concerned about.

Two friends hunted Tadjikistan in June of 2001 (pre-9/11 for those of you in Rio Linda) for Marco Polo rams.  They stayed in an abandoned Soviet base in the mountains north of the Hindu Kush.  At night they would run blacked-out then hump it over the ridge into Afghanistan.

They carried brown rifles.  Both are experienced long-range shooters.  Think they had .300 Weatherby's.

They were gone by the time the SHTF but two months later they would have had a chance.

These are guys who given the chance would have done it.
