Right in the middle of the picture.

Alright, ETH.  You used 'url' and it worked for you.  I had to use 'img', which I thought was correct, but it didn't work the first time.  Then I did a 'quote' on your post and saw that you used 'url'.  I tried that, got the red link.  Changed it back to 'img' and it worked.  Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over?  How did you make it work using 'url'?

Nevermind!  I just did a 'quote' on my own post and it showed 'url' where I typed 'img'  Whazzup widat?

I've seen those before, very cool IMHO and they do rural areas and stuff - only problem is that they're pictures from 1995.  Cool website and all.  I found some for those of you who live in populated areas (even if you don't you should still check). These are accurate within a month and are in color. http://www.mapquest.com You'll see a color street map of your area after you enter your address, then if they have an aerial photo for you there will be a tab at the top of the map to select.  Once you do so select big photo and save it or whatever.  If you pay the monthly fee you can have pictures that will zoom in good enough to see a dog, and are accurate within 12 hours. Relators use this mostly.

Brouhaha..........

I've been told by my relator that if you buy the program and pay for the monthly service that you can get the up to date and very close if you choose pictures.  To get a service like that go to the website indicated on the top corner of all of mapquest's aerial photos (it's globesomething?) or one of the many other programs like that (warning - it ain't cheap). Mapquest's staff emailed me and said that the stuff on their site is updated every month or so, but that may not be true for some areas because they have to purchase the pictures.  That is also why rural or low population areas are not covered (too expensive for a small # of people).  Since you build houses (or so I assume based on the new development and you said that you're building a house) you should have a friend in the realaty business, see if they can find a good picture for you.  On mapquest I looked at my dad's house and saw a big white thing in his backyard that I don't remember being there. I called him and he remembers a big sheet of styrofoam in the yard about 7 weeks ago, so I don't know when they actually update things, but it's up to date enough for me.

Wow! I found where I live..can't see the house from the trees. But, in a side note...for those who remember my 31 gun warning shot story, you can see the Air Force reservation to the north, northwest and northeast of my house...I live in the center lower section of the satellite pic, next to the trees.

The hangar block at the end of the taxiway, the side facing the runway, open door on the right is my hangar.

Here is a pic of an A-12 spyplane ( early CIA version of the SR-71). Can you name any of the other aircraft clustered around it? This image was taken from a small, yet very cool, air museum located at the Minneapolis Int. Airport.

I'm not up to speed on jets, and the photo is pretty grainy, but here are my guesses L-R 2 F-4 Phantoms, F-102, F-89, F-94, T-33, a D-18.

About a year ago I heard that in SoCal some county or city (possible Orange County) was using oblique-angle high altitude photography to match up modifications to houses (in  the photos) over time, with building permits to see who was making room additions, etc. without the proper papers and fees.

Looks like a reactor.

I would submit that it is on the site because this is the United States, and they are free to do so. Why would they block it out? Then all the little blacked out areas would be potential targets. When that happens folks will be asking to shut the whole thing down, cuz we cant just have pictures of nuclear reactors and the white house available to the public, can we? Another freedom slowly eroded.

My $.02

Yeah but it is a security issue. And USGS doesn't have to give it to them. I just think it is a little weird thats all.
