I was listening to the MICHAEL MEDVID radio show last week when he had on an interview with this "thing". The person was a tenured professor at the University of Texas. Her name is Dana Cloud, a self proclaimed socialist and lesbian. She gets paid by the state of Texas to spew forth this filth at the expense of your tax dollars ! Hey Jarhead 22 , need a response on this one. And you wonder just how this country gets into the jams we do. This woman actually teaches this crap to her students. Well , what do you all think?

I think it's great. I am all for the free exchange of thoughts and ideas. I think our tax dollars couldn't be spent any better... However... The problem is that in todays America, it seems that Socialist Lesbians seem to get more airtime in the cess-pool of upper echelon acedemia than those who are on the right side of th ball.

I'm not from TX, but up in WI (home of the (in)famous U Wisc), we say 'Madison is an island surrounded by reality'... (Of course, it's also our state capital, which reinforces the image (of utter bafoonery)...)... What is it with state universities anyhow???

I hear ya broutha! But this IS Austin....Just what did you expect from a city that had a homeless cross dressing freak of nature on the ballot for Mayor?! Remember, South Austin: We're all here 'cause we'er not all there!

I went to UT, many years ago, and I also had the distinct displeasure of working there. Most of the time, it felt like I was in a North Korean re-education camp. Being a white male veteran and a little older than your average freshman, I was not the typical victim they had in there classes, and I didn't buy in to the hyperbole and wailing. I had one professor who actually announced that she gave higher grades to women and minority studwents, because they were starting out at a "disadvantage" for the same work. I learned a lot more about psychology and sociology from my first couple years as a cop than I ever learned in college. The good news about UT, is that we have most of the liberals in Texas all voluntarily corralled on the 40 acre (give or take) campus.

I don't wonder about how this country gets into jams. People like Dr. Cloud have to be there to serve as examples to others. Just hope the T-sips raise their kids to identify freaks like this for what they are when they appear on their radar. I hope I haven't said or done anything to make you think that I espouse any of her beliefs. In fact, I'm the one who linked to her bio on the UT website when she was mentioned in a thread about the Pledge of Allegiance last week: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?id=130674 I didn't go to UT. I've never lived in Austin, the Berkeley of Texas. Why would you need a response from me? Because she lives in Texas? What can I tell you? Assholes are everywhere, especially in academia. No insult meant to the teachers among the faithful here, but you have to admit there are some nutjobs out there squirreled away on college campuses.

Steers and queers. No place but Austin.

I think our tax dollars couldn't be spent any better The "free exchange of ideas" was occurring LONG before the State started using taxpayer money. It is NOT a coincidence that the "upper echelon of academia" turned bitter and hostile against the right side of the isle when the "State" started mass funding of these institutions with tax money.

Insane is such a harsh word, isn't it? And have you heard my theory on insanity?

All in all though, I have to say that I don't think Dr. Cloud would be into freely exchanging thoughts and ideas with phallocentric oppressors like us.

You know, if this woman teaches Math or English, I don't really care what her politics and sexuality are. On the other hand, if she's teaching Sociology, Psychology, or Political Science, then I'd care a whole lot. Given that she's obviously some sort of activist (or else why do interview shows?), I'll bet she's in the Social Science area. Even at that, if she'd be willing to give Medved as much time with her classes, as he gave her on his broadcast, I'd still be OK with it. But I'll bet she wouldn't give him 5 minutes. Her type hardly ever is willing to let the other side speak out.

I went to UT, have a son there now. Like any large university it has a lot of strange people(even for Texas).Been to a smaller university and have another son that graduated from Stephen F. Austin, these nuts and misfits just seem to gravitate to the make believe world created on campuses. All that having been said, what I remember best from the fog of youth is Sixth street and the girls!
Link Posted: 7/14/2002 6:15:22 AM EDT
That is exactly the reason why I went to Texas A&M.
Link Posted: 7/14/2002 6:17:38 AM EDT
Because of the girls?

T-ray. You don't have a relative that's a legislator, do you?

They usually are:
Dana L. Cloud (PhD, University of Iowa, 1992) specializes in the analysis of contemporary and popular and political culture from [red]feminist[/red], [red]Marxist[/red], and critical [red]anti-racist[/red] perspectives.

Some things just always seem to gel together. [:P] Too many of our tax dollars going to support an educational system that is distinctly political.

This is a good point. Academia, and the rest of the country has plenty of people that think like this woman. At least she is up front about it, so people can avoid her class. I was always more irritated by the professors that attempted to hide their beliefs behind a phony veil of "impartiality." There is an easy solution to this problem. Learn to think for yourself and don't blindly follow your professors. If they say something that is full of shit, go look it up yourself and then point it out to them in the next class. Most professors would rather have students that are capable of independent thought, rather than the ones that reguritate everthing from the lectures. When I was in college I took a class called "The Psychology of Women." I probably thought it was a good place to meet women. On the first day of class, I noticed I was the only male in the class and I thought there was no way I was going to spokesman for my gender! It was taught by someone who seemed very similar to Prof. Cloud.
