I haven't been able to find strike anywhere matches for years. The ones you can light with your thumb.

Anyone know of an online source?

Thanks in advance,
John

I know of a source for them.  The question is how bad do your really want them?  The matches are classified as hazarous materials because they could ignite during shipping.  You would either have to pay shipping costs of $6 + something like a $12 haz mat fee.  Or since you are in Illinios, take a trip to Grand Rapids MI or Inianapolis IN, and you can pick them up at the gun shows we do in that area.

I live on the IL- Wisc line so I go north 5 miles to Menards home center. they still have them but not for long, I believe they have either stoped or are going to stop making them. I get as many as possible. Those thing are going to be worth much more as pre-bans, ha-ha.

Fall of 1999 Menard's home improvement store had them for less than a dollar a box, when gun show prices were $2.50.  Haven't looked lately but worth a try.  And yes these were strike anywhere, not strike on box.  I was very surprised to see them retail.  Found this site.

They are being controlled becuase strike anywhere matches can be made to re-arm primers and is a threat to the socialist's disarmament plans. Blue Diamond had even offered for a short while in SGN instructions on how to do it.
I can still buy them here for $2 a big box.

When I was but a wee sapling, my friends and I used to drop the strike-anywhere matches down the muzzles of our pellet rifles. I remember pumping my Daisy 880 10 times and letting loose with the "exploding ammo". I'd mostly fire at a cinder block wall, where they would explode on impact, but we would also shoot them at each other. Mmmm... The good old days...[:)]

[note: there was no ammo in our rifles except the matches. Don't try it with bbs or pellets too.]

I usually find them at gun shows.  They're great.  I can light them everywhere.  Except outer space.

You can too light them in outer space, but you gotta have the skills,

like me.

You see what I like to do is set a row of these matches at 200yds, and with one shot ignite them all.

Light them with your thumb???  Lightweight!!  I light them off my teeth!!!
WE used to shoot them through our Aririfles when we were young.  Its fun to shoot a pine tree because they stuck would stick into the tree and still ignite...

A buddy had his pet rabbit chew on one last year and igni9te several.  They were ona pile of newspaper at the time.  He heard the sound of the match lighting and luckley caught the flames before anything really bad happened!!!  If he wasn't there the house would be a pile of ashes now.

Look for them at hardware stores or Osco Drugstores or CVS if you have them where you're from.

Don't you hate the way things are going in this country? Everybody's driving their cars with the headlights on in broad daylight, McDonald's has to put up big posters warning morons that hot coffee might be hot, our automakers can't build a car to sell for less than 9 grand 'cause of all the government safety mandates, and pretty soon we'll all have to wear dang helmets and knee-pads if we want to walk and chew bubblegum at the same time. I'm a machinist, and it's no wonder American industry has a hard time competing with foreign countries when OSHA has us all bound up in straitjackets for fear we'll stick our pointy little heads into a punch press and hit the button.

What were we talking about? Matches?

I had heard the matches were banned, but our Wal Mart and King Soopers still stock them.
I guess Colorado is less restrictive than other states.

If you find yourself in the Paradise Bar, Osan Korea, and you're really drunk and they have a big box of the really explosive Korean made strike-anywhere matches on the table in front of you and the devil horns start to grow out of your head and you want to strike one and chuck it into that big box of matches...

...Don't! The jet flame will hit the ceiling and the mushroom cloud will empty the bar and the Mamasan will get really pissed!!! (it's not a job---it's an adventure...)

Hey Guys. Thanks for the info and the laughs.

SWIRE
Thanks for the lead on Fire-Balls.com.
As it happens, I ordered some from them two months ago and never received them. They haven't charged my credit card, thankfully.
Don't know what the deal is with them. Won't answer my emails.

Councilman
Thanks. I think I'll give them a call.

CHZ
I think I'm going to order a case from the place Councilman suggested, http://www.survivalunlimited.com/fire.htm
If you were going to offer to send me some it's not necessary, But WOW, I never expected anyone to go to that kind of trouble! THANKS
